I won't get into a slanging match Brian. Suffice it to say that I do understand ¨basic mechanical engineering¨, indeed I have a degree in the subject and am a member of the relevant professional bodies.
A torque is no more than a force and, like any force, it can be absorbed - in this case by...
Great news, Colin. Now go and buy yourself some hair restorer to celebrate.
When I first saw this a couple of years ago I too couldn't believe it and it niggled away in the back of my mind for quite a while until the penny finally dropped.
We all know that it takes a fair amount of torque to...
Colin - to eliminate the bad earth issue connect a jump lead between the battery negative terminal and a clean bit of the engine block. That'll act as temporary good earth and will show if you've got an earthing problem.
Salim - the alternator has a one-way clutch. It rotates freely in one...
Until a couple of years ago I would have said the same thing. Then I saw a Clio diesel where a siezed alternator had done precisely this. The engine wouldn't turn over and there was no slipping from the belt.
Only one way to be sure - take the belt off, re-charge the battery and then try to...
Here's a picture of the inside of the IMV - http://www.relentlessdiesel.com/media/fprmods/sidebysidelabel.jpg . The little bit in the middle is supposed to slide up and down to control the flow of fuel into the pump. Please note that in this picture the solenoid which moves the central part has...
Agreed but please also check the drive between the low pressure and high pressure sides of the pump. Bosch CP3 pumps, which this is, do have a bit of a reputation for shearing this drive.
Alan
The simple answer is yes. Different makes/models can have different maximum pressures, some lower than the Honda and some higher. It all depends on the fuel system fitted and the paramaters the manufacturer has used.
Alan
I too can't remember how the pump comes off and as I've no longer got the car I can't check! Must've been fairly obvious though otherwise I would have remembered.
I'd suggest you do take the pump off and have a thoroughly good look at things. This will give you the opportunity to look at the...
Sorry, John, I've only just picked up on this thread. I'd pretty much go along with what Fahad has said but I'll add a little more.
If the engine is running OK at idle but you've got a hesitation when under way you need to do some tests with the car being driven. Look particularly for any...
If it is the IMV these can be bought and changed easily. Jon's the expert on that subject! However if the drive has sheared then the answer is a replacement pump.
At least you've now narrowed it down.
Alan
If I've read your first post in the other thread correctly the car started OK and then just cut dead. If that's right then this is not a filter problem although changing the filter will have done no harm.
You have fuel flowing out of the filter when you use the primer bulb so it's a reasonable...
No idea how to remove the trims but the air bag igniters are behind the A-pillar (that's the windscreen side pillar) trims so I can't see you having a problem with them.
Alan
Really this needs a compression test done to determine whether or not it is bore/ring wear. A decent diesel specialist should be able to do this for you. As for using thicker oil I doubt changing to a 10W/40 will make much difference. A 0W/50 might but that's expensive oil, particularly if the...
Well done, Jon. Glad you checked the tightness of the injectors before firing up the engine. Many people, myself included, have been caught out by that nasty little issue of a bolt hole full of oil.
