The Saab is great mate! It pulls like crazy and accelerating is frantic because of the torque haha. Having the roof down was making me want the Mazda back on the road with it getting warmer now too but its got a long way to go yet.

Yeah, I think I'm looking at two seperate problems here. Power cut is probably due to the filter and the booming noise and the smell from the manifold.

I don't know about an Accord but I bought a wider diameter mid section for my MX5 which had the mid box deleted. I don't think the power was massively improved but it made a lovely noise full of pops and bangs on the overrun (childish but awesome) and it certainly seemed more eager and responsive.

I'm thinking about doing this too and I was going to put in a better FMIC. I've only just joined the forum, is there a thread with any tips on fitting a bigger intercooler? The meshed grille in the picture looks great.
