Ok, after a 350 mile trip, won't start, about 200 miles in foot down hard on roundabout it cut for a beat then carried on fine, it did this twice, 300 miles in stopped and re starting took longer than normal ( fuel? ) and engine light on. Pulling into home over two speed bumps, it gives up and I just make it roll to park up, try starting and just keeps spinning, battery light comes on.

This morning, remove fuel rail sensor, clean and replace, also bleed air from filter, still no go.

Heater matrix has been giving the odd wiff of coolant recently, but on trip it got worse and passenger floor is wet, are there any things to look for here?, or just a double whammy fault.

Cheers guys.

When you say it keeps spinning, does it sound like the engine has lost compression? When it cut was there any smoke? Or sound like a turbo popping? Has it lost coolant?

Try temporarily blanking the egr valve at the front with a small metal plate and see if it starts. Then you’ll know if that’s the cause.

Thanks for the quick response F6HAD, all sorted just this minute.

( '' Spinning'' was just that turning over and you kind of know this thing ain't going to fire.)

Basically it was the coolant leaking onto the half dozen block connectors below matrix, hoovered out and a good dose of isoproyl on terminals, started up straight away.

Cheers, Sean.

I still love this car!! ......again.

What to do about the matrix is the next problem, is there a thread here on the job? it looks quite involved.

I could blank off as Ive lived with the half side no heat for a while now, but nothing at all would be fine until the winter comes.

Never seen that on one of these before. No shortcuts on something like this, strip the dash and get to the offending part and solve it properly mate.

The heater matrix is the first part of any car that gets put on the ***embly line. The rest of the car is then ***embled around that.
Anyone who has ever replaced a heater matrix knows this to be true.

I did it once, but on a Toyota. No garage would take the job but they quote a full day when they do apparently. It took me 2 days, but would not shy away from doing another. Do yourself a favor though and remove the front seats so you have room to move inside there.
