Well we tried what CJ suggested which was get some weight on front end and tighten suspension bolts, basically preloading the bushes beyong that of what the natural weight would. This dropped the car a bit around 5mm but I was not happy loading the bushes in such a way, when we undid them the spring back was enough to convince me this was not the way forward. I doubt the poor bushes would have lasted too long with such a unnatural loading.
So I stripped out both struts and we compared stock with aspec and with eibach springs. What was noticable was that stock and aspec dampers are the same height and share the same bump stops and top hats. The rebound by hand is different so all the aspec "magic" if thats the right word is on the inside. The aspec springs are normal type where as the eibach are progressive design, the aspec compared to stock are alot stiffer and a fair bit stiffer than the eibachs. This would ring true on the road as I found aspec to be alot harder ride than with the eibach springs, aspec is the same whatever kind of predictable but hard, eibach due to progressive nature tend to stiffen up all of a sudden which also gives a softer ride for the most part.
So in the end we decided to do a two week period of testing with eibach springs on the aspec dampers, its early days but so far its looking very promising indeed. For the record on the rear it was all nice and easy ASPEC and Eibach springs are the same length and not real difference in stiffness either. Also rear dampers look identical and rebound speed was the same as well. So I decided to keep ASPEC kit on the back whilst I test out the eibach springs upfront on aspec dampers.
All in all havent been that impressed with ASPEC kit, I think if I had gone from stock to ASPEC it would have been great. But having gone from eibach springs the difference wasnt so visible and both options give advantages over the other IMO.
So we will see how it all goes over the next few weeks, I will report back.
