window scraping

whats causing the drivers window to get scraped? sounds like the seal. want to fix the cause before i replace it.

Do you mean lines up and down the window where it moves? If so, sounds like an overtight seal, or a bit of grit caught between the window ans the seal of the window.

yes up and down the way. about 5 inches wide of little scratches.

Sounds like you've got something caught inbetween the window and rubber mate. Have a good look and see if you can see anything.

If not, take the door card off and run the window up and down to see if it's catching anywhere inside the door.

while u guys are on this subejct, i get a cracking noise when window goes up/down sometimes. Not sure if its the motor or just gunk stuck under the rubber seals???

Darko, do you get that noise when the window reaches the bottom, and then again when it gets all the way to the top? I get that too. It's nothing to worry about. Aparently it's the glass in the runners that causes it. A pretty simple fix really. Just a case of finding an afternoon free to sort it.

Hi Si,

Yes, i get that noise when itreaches the top/bottom.
Also a few times, when i pressed the auto for it to wind up, it went about 3/4 and then came back down :unsure:

Dont suppose u could enlighten me, on how to spend the afternoon fixing

i used to have a scraping noise too on the drivers side. I think it once came off its runners or guides and it never in three years sorted itself out with the noise. I just put up with it.

Darko if your window gets 3/4 of the way up and then comes down again the system thinks that there is something caught in the window. It's a safety feature so people can't strangle them selves accidentally. :lol: Sounds silly, but it's happened and that's why the system was invented :lol: :lol:

So it could be that the seal round the window is too tight as well. I had to replace the seal on my old 6th for this very reason. Cost £90 from Honda, then got my trusted mechanic to fit it after i sliced my hand open trying to remove the old one. Still got the bl00dy big scar :lol:

With regard to the window. Take the window out of the runners, and then clear anything that may be caught in the guides. Then oil the moving parts, and replace the window. It really is a pain in the **** to do though.


Hope this helps a little mate.

Maybe winding the window down fully and spraying some silicone spray onto the rubbers might help it glide a bit better, especially if the rubber is a bit hard/perished.
