My drivers side sidelight bulb has gone. I haven't had a good look but after a cursory look under the bonnet, I couldn't see easily how to get to it. Anyone advise please?

It all depends on how easy you find removing a wheel and arch liner ?

It's very easy indeed.Just prise the two clips holding the wheel arch cover bend back to get your hand in.
Put your hand in and turn the bulb connector anti clockwise and pull out.
There is plenty of cable to pull the connector out and just pull the buld and relpace.
It takes about 5 min job done.

Andy if you have small hands and a petrol engine (more room in the engine bay) it can be done from there too... but the proper is above as per Bretts post! :)

P.S I hope your changing them to LEDs if not already ;-)

As Brett has said. I can do it in under 1 minute. No need to remove the wheel mate.

It's dead easy. don't be shy about yanking the arch liner to get your hand in, it won't break.

Mine went and I waited until it was due its MOT and let the mechanic at Honda do it  . But get stuck in mate, I bet it's not as bad as it's made out to be ;) .

Cheers guys....I'll try and have a go tomorrow......much swearing and grazing of knuckles to follow!

I'm pretty sure on my diesel cn2 i changed the sidelights from under the bonnet. I did end up with a bit of blood on my hands but took 5 mins max.

I can do it from in the engine bay on a petrol. Took me a couple of go's to get it right..

Andy the only thing that might break is the clips i broke a couple as there very brittle.Don't worry thought as there about 50p each from the dealers.

I can offer the following from recent experience of replacing my Tourer's "Position Light" with LED's.

Sidelight LED Replacement Procedure by the roadside ...

Select a screwdriver with too small a blade to remove clips. Swear.
Go back in house and select correct size screwdriver blade.
Break first clip. Swear.
Remove second clip successfully using experience from breaking first clip.
Pull back liner and bang head on wheel trying to locate sidelight visually. Swear.
Start car and turn wheel to full lock (optional swear: if you turned wheel to the incorrect lock first time).
Pull back liner and insert hand (optional: get hand stuck due to wristwatch snagging and swear).
Turn bulb holder anti clockwise and withdraw.
Replace bulb with LED, it is mandatory to insert bulb reverse polarity first time. Swear.
Correct polarity, test and refit.
Step back to admire your handywork and crush the second liner clip underfoot. Swear.
Replace liner without liner cllips or use temporary push fits if they are to hand.

Offiside bulbs may also require you to jump slightly as an M3 driver thinks its hilarious to rev his engine as he passes 1/2" from your head!

Finally go to nearest dealer and buy 4 new clips.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Mark.

If you don't like swearing, change the bulbs from inside the engine bay.

I have BIG hands and could do it on both sides without any issues.

On the passenger side (UK wise) you can fit your hand in the gap next to the battery and find the bulb, notice that there are two "bulb holders" going into the side of the lamp, the lower one is the bulb, the higher one is the cables to the dipped beams (99% sure, don't shoot me if it's the other way round) :)

On the driver side you need to remove the filler head for the windscreen washer fluid. It's one bolt holding the neck to the frame, then just pull the filler top out and place it somewhere safe. Push the rest of the filler neck down and you will be able to fit your hand to replace the bulb.

Take your time if you haven't messed with it before! :)

However the three plastic retainer clips most probably will hahahahaha!!!!! Replacements are dirt cheap on flea-bay!!! B-)

The owners manual for my pre-facelift 7th gen diesel tourer gives pretty clear instruction on how to do this (removal of the wing undershield, in my case). Not sure what model you have, but have a look in your manual.

Just in case
