Hi peeps this topic has been covered but this was done on 6th Gen so thought I would share it, this is a simple yet a very effective way to keep your manual transmission silky smooth ;)

Firstly you will need about 2 litres of quality MTF, always think carefully regarding this fluid and 90% of the time its wise to stick to the genuine fluid for cars younger than 8 years old.

MTF fluid is allot thicker than engine oil, so changing it whilst the engine & gearbox is hot is advisable? Preferably after a 10-20 minute run, as this will allow any contaminants to empty more readily. Then proceed to jack up at the front of the car from the side where transmission is located, also as an extra safety measure place a axle stand under the structural chassis beam. Unless you’re using ramps which is the best option all-round?

Now place some plastic sheeting down just in case and ensure a suitable bowl is placed under the sump to prevent oily mess on the floor or driveway.

As illustrated the gearbox filler bolt at the top is loosened but not removed as this can be allot harder to remove than the drain bolt, so the wumps method maybe required ;)

Keep filling the transmission until it trickles out and then put the filler bolt back in, either with a new washer or some liquid gasket to maintain a good seal...

The images should be self explanatory really, but any questions please don’t hesitate to ask ???

That's for posting this up dude. It really is something that needs doing to most second hand cars now, and is often overlooked.

So thanks again for the guide.

Another great DIY fella :)

Thanks buddy, in all honesty I was thinking of putting in the DIY section, but I noticed posts for MTF didn't want to make a clutter

Do you mean the drain and filler holes?

yeh they can be a bit awkward to spot as they look nearly the same as many other bolts in the same place!

Is this pretty much the same on an auto 6th gen as im gonna do mine today, just got 4 litres delivered :)

Yeh will be similar method, but the drain and filler bolts will be in different locations. Have a look on the ESM for the locations or even Lings will show diagrams.

There should be a notice about that you need a special tool for the drain plug. I dont know the right name for the tool but google translator tells me that quadrangular key/tool is what you are looking for. Also the size of that is bit strange, I bought a tool that have 8mm and 10mm "square" heads but they didn't fit. It should be like 9mm

Sry for bad english

I didn't need any special tools for mine, just used a regular wrench and socket, if memory serves me correctly.
