Before I start just thpught id mention I cant see any of the other posts in this sevtion????
Anyways, adjustusted my valve clearances a few weeeks back, car runs quiter, uses less fuel, smokes less.....but I cant feel the vtec crossover anymore???
The car definately isnt amy slower, realistically I suppose its the ideal as its now a steady climb all the way through the rev range bit somethimg just doesnt seem right?????.

Hello Russell

TBH you should feel the cross over for sure. Have you checked you have enough oil in the car as low oil disengages VTEC. Also check the solenoid connections etc. You could of knocked something when you did the valve repair

Try that and see how you get on?

Let us know if you find out what the problem was, I be interested to know the out come.

After the mods ive had done I gained a lot of power and torque before vtec in the mid range so it did smooth it out a lot. Vafc still says im getting vtec and if I wasnt getting full power I shouldnt be pulling 6 seconds to 60 and handing my mate his **** in his ep3,and another friend in his dc5????
Ill try and post a vid later of the rev counter in second and third gear to show how it revs round, should be able to hear the change as well as ive stripped the interior and its quite noisy now lol
Have just noticed on a vid I took in february the vtec controller showed a "correction value"....a minus value that increase the higher the revs go?????

The guys over on the Prelude forum have always been adamant that a properly tuned H Series motor should make the transition into VTEC smoothly. iirc one of the things advised to help smooth out the crossover is correcting your valve clearances, so this may well be why you noticed a difference :)

But I dont like it lol
the main thing im worried about is why vafc2 is now showing a correction value as the revs climb? Will have a look through the manual when I get home as I dont even know what the correction value is in reference to?
just downloaded the manual to my phone, its the air correction ratio apparently
Im gonna try cleaning the vtec solenoid tomorrow and see if I get lucky and it cures it.

Ok.....spoke to Romain at Eurospec who mapped the vafc2....he said its perfectly normal and I probably just didnt notice the correction figure on the display.
And if I have a smooth vtec crossover ive basically done a good job of the valve clearances, yay me lol,so my friends who take the mick because of my various ocd behaviours can jog on ;-)
Still going to take my vtec solenoid off today and give the filter a clean though, and also discovered my vtec direct manifold is leaking......again!!!!
Any word from the mods why I cant see the other posts in the type r section yet??? Is it bcoz i'm on my mobile??

Took my vtec solenoid off and stripped it and gave it a clean. The filter in the gasket was pretty clean to be fair so it doesnt seem to be any issues there.
Car seems to be running a little smoother since cleaning though, probably just a placebo....oh and word of warning for anyone cleaning the vtec solenoid....if you take the top part off (with the small cylinder on it)make sure you hold it upright as there are freely moving parts inside that fall on the driveway and take twenty panicked minutes to find
Also when bolting back to the alloy head i got the general impression i could have kept tightening until the point it pulled the thread out.

Sounds great on a side note though! Yes the Vtec/fuel controllers take the flat line out of the torque curve before vtec, its the marketing pitch of the vtec/fuel controllers claiming massive improvements. The flat line before Vtec is also a marketing pitch by Honda.

But never mind that, its a great thing Vtec. You are better off tuning the upper RPMs only if you want to keep the kick. On the Type R gearbox you should be never out of Vtec if you shift right, the gears are short. However you dont have the dual runners so hearing it might be less on off.

Ive got a Feilds Vtec/fuel controller that im going to add to JDM H22a soon, and all im going to do is lean up between 3000-4000rpm for MPG 60-80mph and improve the Vtec RPMS. leaving alone the lower RPMs and 4000-5200rpm. Best of both worlds.
