Bit of a strange one this, but when I'm in the car the heating just never seems to get rid of the window misting up.

It gets really warm but never gets the front window clear, any ideas????

Is there air coming out of the vents i.e can you feel it when on full (position 4)

If not then it is probably the pollen filter is clogged and not been changed in a while. Not a big job, but bigger on than on the 7th Gen and hence could be over looked shall we say.

Have you tried it with the A/c on and does it clear?

I know that my Air Con needs topping up and there is only a small amount of air coming out of the vents just under the windscreen compared to a furnace coming out of the dashboard vents.

Just to clarify and apologies for asking, but you have got it on the windscreen setting?

Is the air coming out of the main vents quite forceful?

Is the re-circulate button on or off?

Yeah I've definatley got it on the windscreen setting but no air appears to be coming through the vents under the screen.

Air is coming out very forcefully yes.

The recirculate button is off.

Cheers for answering me on this, i'm pretty rubbish at all of this.

I think pollen fillter is main reason... ;)

I've gone through the service history and can't see any mention of the pollen filter being changed. As the car is 8 years old I think its well over due. I'm having it serviced next month so will ask for it to be done then unless its easy enough to do myself?

mate, you can do that yourself tomorow

its 5 min job to find out about fillter

I find that closing the driver/passenger dash vents will give you more air at the windscreen vents, this seems to keep the windscreen from misting up.

As Carl has said check pollen filter, because it's tucked away behind glovebox it can tend to be overlooked during servicing

It is strange, i've seen it happen when the air con is on and the recirculate button is on, but from what you are saying it is more an airflow issue.

Firstly I would check that you can direct the air to different locations i.e feet only etc. (you need to establish whether there is still control over the airflow)

After this I would close off all dash vents to increase the available airflow to the windscreen and see if more air comes out. ( this may indicate a blockage or a failure in the ability to direct air to the windscreen)

Does the blower work at different speeds (there is a resistor that controls the speed of the fan, although generally I seem to remember when they go they only work on one level.)

One other thing to check if it has only happened recently, is that there is not a build up of leaves at the top of the bonnet, blocking the vents.

How long has it done this for?

Have you had the car serviced and by who and is there are record of the pollen filter being changed? (if the pollen filter hasn't been changed then I would say it would be worth changing the procedure for changing it sounds and looks more daunting than it actually is)

Have you cleaned the windscreen with anything ?

Is the misting at the bottom or the top of the windscreen ?

Even though the A/c needs re-gasing do you use the A/c much ?

Ok, to be honest your best replacing the filter just to ensure it's fine, afterwards you will probably find it is blowing a gale !

Ged, the car is a 6th Gen not a 7th Gen like ours, it is a little more tricky to change the filter, still not that difficult but looks more daunting !!

Can you spray something on the inside to stop the misting? There must be stuff you can get for it from Halfords or the supermarket?

I have the same problem as you, I usually just open the window (if its not raining too heavy) and it clears in time
but the heater alone won`t clear the windscreen, It clears the backwindow ok

Hi Guys, real newbie here.. bought my Accord ( 51 plate 2.0 Vtec 2.0 Se Exec Auto) a couple of weeks ago and just getting used to it..my vehicle has exactly the same problem with front window not clearing.....from all the tutorials I could find and vein attempts to find the pollen filters..am I correct in thinking my model does not have them fitted? ..if so..are they located behind glovebox..as it's looks a bit diffarent to remove than other models listed?

I reckon yours will have a pollen filter Hawkan. I'll be down the motor factors tomorrow so I'll let you know how I get on and take pics as I go along (apologies in advance for the poor quality pics)

Hi Nathan, thank you in advance for the reply..greatly apprecioated.....I looked at the tutorials on both this and other forums and none were the same as my dash, in so much as the glove box removal was not the same and my owners manual only referred to pollen filters in EU models..look forward to your reply mate..

Andy,

Pretty sure if you have A/c then you'll have the pollen filter.

On our 6th Gen 1.8 W reg there is one.

On post Number 11 on this thread, there are a couple of links to threads that tell you where to find the pollen filter, it is behind the glove box, but on the 6th Gen, you have to literally remove the glove box, which looks quite daunting, but isn't that bad. you have to separate a couple of wire connectors and from memory there is a metal bar that has to be removed, then you will see like a letterbox cover where the pollen filter is.

Cheers Carl..I followed that thread at the weekend..only problem is the glovebox on the SE EX is totally diffarent to the post..there are no tabs on the inside of the glovebox to remove in order to get at the screws and the whole ***embly is very diffarent....I printed off a couple of threads and followed the instructions, but all seemed very diffarent to my glovebox and dash and I drew the conclusion that I didn't have the pollen filter...however..you may well be right and that could solve the problem I just could not figure out the glovebox removal ...at the weekend I will post a couple of pics of the glovebox ***embly that may help. as it's definitely diffarent to threads I have seen to date...thanks again mate!!

Andy,

Was going to suggest taking some pictures.

When you mentioned tabs on the inside of the glovebox, which thread were you looking at, it sounds like it was a 7th Gen which is different.

The pictures on the 6th Gen pollen filter change is a left hand drive car so it looks quite different.

From memory when you open the glove box you should see two screws at the top, one either side, when you undo these I am pretty sure you can withdraw the glove box itself, you then need to remove the plastic underneath the glove box, this will reveal the wire looms and connectors and you will probably see the filter panel.

I need to do the filter on our 6th Gen so will refresh my memory, probably at the weekend, so i'll compare your pics to how ours looks etc.

Afternoon Guys,

I've changed the pollen filter, it took me about an hour to do but most of that was down to me taking the glovebox out (which I don't think I had to do really) and not wanting to break any clips holding the cover panel on.

Anyway, pics will follow, but to be honest with what is on this site already, it's quite straight forward.

The heaters do work alot better now and my air con actually works too so if any of you guys are having misting problems on your windscreen, I strongly suggest you change that pollen filter. It only costs £12 and if I can do it, you can do it!

Well done Andy glad your problem is sorted and in a cheap way as well.

Opps..thanks mate..it might have been the Gen 7 link I was looking at as it mentions (as do other links I have looked at ) removing the two screws on the inside of the glovebox by the hasp and then removing a further two screw after flipping out two plastic tabs (which I definitely do not have)...I will have another go at the weekend and will post some pics of the glovebox ***embly (it may well help someone else).. once again appreciate your reply and thank you for your patience :) .

No probs Andy,

After all this is what the forum is about.

I'm just waiting for a replacement filter to arrive and I'll be doing it over the weekend myself, so i'll make some notes just in case !

Have you got your replacement filter yet ?

Cheers Carl..hope it's a bit better weather at the weekend..lets just say it's "Bracing" in Skeggy at present!! .. have not ordered the filter yet..I want to make sure I can get to it first!...I will take a few photos of the glovebox ***emby and post them ....hopefully it will cure the slow clearing front screen..it took ages to clear tonight I felt a right mupett sitting in the works car park with fogged up windows after everyone else had left. :D

Well....2nd attempt at removing glovebox....still not getting anywhere..removed the only two internal screws and used a bit of brute force, but the unit wont budge..I can't see anything else obvious that is holding it in, it's not even loose...I have taken a few pic of the ***embly in the hope someone can suggest where I am going wrong..any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers Jamie, Carl's done a cracking step by step making the job so much easier, I am even looking forward to getting stuck into it next weekend, I am so confident now I have even ordered the filter..what's the betting when it comes it's the wrong one!! :D
