Is it possible to adjust the sensitivity of the automatic headlights?

I'm sure there preset and can not be adjusted.

Are they known to vary over time? I seem to disagree with the car about how dark it should be before the sidelights come on. I've always switched them on manually before the car does it.

Auto headlights only do dipped don't they? I didn't think the sidelights came on at any time.

I don't bother using the auto light, as when ever you go under a bridge on the motorways it comes on and goes off straight after, people in front would think I'm flashing them.

The settings on the switch are OFF, Sidelights, AUTO, and Dipped. If it's nearly dusk and I have the sidelights on, and I switch it to AUTO, the sidelights go off.

If you've got to move the switch from sidelights to Auto, doesn't that sort of defeat the point of having automatic lights in the first place?

I thought this, but it doesn't do that. Try it by covering the sensor in the middle of the top of the dash. The lights come on, but they stay on for some time after you take your hand away.

Yeah and TBH I don't use mine, I would if I had DRL as that would make sense, but as you say with sidelights you might as well just choose when to turn the headlights on - on auto you never get to use sidelights so what purpose do they serve!

Excuse my ignorance here but do all Accords have auto lights?

I am away from home, and my Accord, at the moment so I can't physically check. Do 2005 2.4 Execs have auto lights?

Ok so I'm bumping a 4 year old thread but I've never seen an "auto" sign on my indicator stalk, only on the wiper stalk. Can someone answer the above question please?

Don't remember having auto lights on my pre-facelift. Only time I leave them on auto is depths of winter when it's usually dark when I use the car, rest of the time don't see the point unless you want to to momentarily confused when you go through a tunnel or under a motorway bridge.

Aye, the facelifted execs definitely had auto lights.... my pre-facelift exec definitely doesn't..

At 8pm yesterday someone spoke to me in traffic saying that they couldn't see me because my lights were off. I don't turn on my lights until just before sunset or if I couldn't otherwise see the cars in front. I do notice that about 90% of other cars have their headlights on and that's probably down to sensitivity but am I leaving my lights off for too long?

where is this switch? i wonder if i have it? never noticed lol but i dont think my facelift GT Sport has it.

If you were in London, sunset this week is around 9.20pm

Highway code

113
You MUST

•ensure all sidelights and rear registration plate lights are lit between sunset and sunrise
•use headlights at night, except on a road which has lit street lighting. These roads are generally restricted to a speed limit of 30 mph (48 km/h) unless otherwise specified
•use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced (see Rule 226)
Night (the hours of darkness) is defined as the period between half an hour after sunset and half an hour before sunrise).

So, ask them to book an appointment at Specsavers, if they can find it.

crikey that bit of the highway code was probably written before Concorde first flew LOL
