I'm pretty sure this has been covered in the past, but I've not been able to find anything since we lost the Google search box. Before I place an order, here goes...

I've been happily using LubeTech's OPTIMA 0w/30 BMW Longlife 98 Fully Synthetic Engine Oil every 6K miles throughout my 7th Gen ownership.

All is well.

My question is, will using Optima LSH 0w30 Fully Synthetic Low Saps Engine oil do any harm?

If all goes to plan I'm one (possibly two) oil changes away from stepping up my search for an 8th Gen diesel. Anyhow, rather than being left with several litres of non-DPF oil that I can't use in my new motor I'm thinking of putting DPF friendly oil in my existing one. If I'm lucky enough to drop on an affordable 8th Gen I can use the balance there. If not and I keep the 7th Gen a while longer I've wasted a tenner on different oil for no real benefit. I can live with that, so long as it won't perform worse than the 0w/30 BMW Longlife 98.

Can anyone who knows more about oil than me advise?

I'm no oil expert but can't see how it will do any harm Matt. As far as I know DPF compliant oil in a non DPF car is fine, but not vice versa

I did email tony at lubetech asking him a similar question and he replied

"LSH will be fine, the low ash oil should be a cleaner oil therefore lower emissions"
