Good evening everybody,
This is my first post on the Accord forum, and as yet I do not actually own one, which is not for the want of trying I might add.
I currently own my 3rd civic....58/1.8/ se, which is a great car, superb i-vtec as usual etc.
But for years now iv'e been after a 8th gen Accord 2.0 i-vtec manual.
Iv'e seen one locally,59 reg, quite tidy, low mileage.....ES...which as you all know only has standard suspension and 16" wheels. I'm going to view closely this car, and take a test drive,(I hope the suspension is better than the civic's)
I'm not a speed merchant, and dont need sat/nav, so the ES appears to have all I need, I would be very happy to hear your thoughts and tips regarding civic to a Accord and the ES model in particular.
Kind regards.

Hi and welcome Steve.

The ES models have a fairly low spec, so try and find an ES GT or and EX or EXGT if you can. The ES only has 16" alloys, but I guess you can upgrade these for £5-600 or so, so not a massive big deal. The ES GT has half leather seats, 17" alloys, side skirts and front spoiler, bluetooth and some other bits and bobs.

As with all Hondas, they are reliable if they have been serviced, and haven't been in a bad crash or something. Some are on the 12 month/12500 miles intervals, some have SVRS servicing where the car decides when to service, but you can disable this.

Check for paint chipping, paint seems easily chipped, bumpers bonnet and windscreen chips. Rear brake calipers seems to stick if not properly maintained. Check the windscreen side trim recall has been done also.

The engine is the R series similar to the one on the Civic but a 2.0. Chain cam so doesnt need changing. These are generally bullet proof, but check its had the valve clearance done at 75k miles or the get rattly.

Steering can feel a bit strange at first as its electric power steering, just check the car runs straight, no tramlining.

All the best

Welcome along mate.

Thats a minter isn't it, hardly been used at 15k miles. Should be able to get £500 off that price. Its a petrol which most people don't want. Budget about £600 for a decent set of 17" alloys to brighten it up and it'll look great. The 8th gen looks like its on pram wheels anything less than 17", 18" are best.

A set of Sigmas would look great on it:

Check the road tax band out, might be more than your Civic.

The road tax/CO2 emission is....£205/168g/km, later models are 159g/km. the civic is £180.
I think I'll go take a serious look/road test at this car, ...see how flexible thesalesman are, and of course what I get offered for my civic.
There.s also a 59 reg ES GT, 45k miles going at BCA/ manchester next week, we will see. cheers.

£205 is fairly good, mine is an early 8th gen, auto also, rated at 187g/km so £265 annual road tax!

I went to see the accord yesterday, it was absolutely immaculate, and then I went for a test drive also, and it was superb also, I suspect the sales guy could tell I was impressed because when we sat down to talk £££;s.....he only offered me £4750 for my 58 civic/31k miles, and at the same time said the accord was priced right,... very dissapointing.
The only criticism of the accord saloon is the well documented little boot and access to it for such a big car, the tourer must be better. cheers for now. Steve.

Thats a shame, but not worth giving the Civic away at that price, best get some more use out of it.

Suprised they aren't more keen to shift the Accord, as its a petrol!

Looked a lovely car as well but don't be persuaded to sell the civic for peanuts

Good evening all,
Just checked the web site of the accord I was interested in to see if they had maybe reduced the price, but it is not there at all, also, it's not on the auto trader site as well now.I find it hard to believe they sold it for that price.
In the meantime I'll keep searching. cheers for now.
