09 Type S Tourer
I unfortunately wrote off my 04 Saloon (ex) and now looking a 09-11 Tourer that's not black. I'd prefer the Buran Silver (EX GT) with manual transmission of course. Any advise?

Many thanks in advance

this is the research i done before buying mine 8th gen:

* service history is must as you want reasurance that the vehicle and engine has been looked after.
* Check the clutch condition, private or empty road preferably, travel at quite a low speed and floor it in 2nd or 3rd to see if the clutch grips as it should. Also finding a steep hill and doing a simular test.
* Brake pad and disc condtion.
* Engine mounts, have someone in the car rev the engine while you look into the engine bay, the diesel models engine can move around quite alot on initial start up, but any excessive vibrations or knocking on tick over or while driving id walk away.
* Tyre condition e.g tread wear and steering wheel alignment, as this will tell you if the track is out.
* As your getting an EX GT, there is looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaads of electronic goodness :) one of the most important ones is the operation of the sat nav, PLEASE make sure u dont make the same mistake as i did, and buy an accord with a eastern european disc only :( make sure both disc come with the car (upto date preferably)
* do you standard checks with the centre console, check the cd player, usb, aux etc all work.
* Check there is sound coming from all the speakers, if not check the settings withing the settings to make sure it all works.
* Check that the service indicator on the dash matches the hard copy service book, if not ask why.
* Correct me if im wrong (going on memory) if stand out side of the car and hold the unlock button, the windows will go down and the sun roof will open untill the button is released. if you hold the lock button, everything should close.
* Check that electric wing mirrors operate correctly via the controls, mirrors move on demand and in the correct direction, mirror units fold in via the button etc.
* with the ignition on or engine on,put the wing mirror selection button to its neutral position, and put the vehicle into reverse (u dont have to be moving) and the left hand side wing mirror should automatically face the floor / slash kurb.
* Hold the boot release on the key fob to open the boot via the fob. it should pop open.
*

il keep adding to this throughout the day.

Petrol or diesel?

The petrols are fairly bombproof, whereas the diesels have some DPF issues, you dont want to inherit an iDtec with problems.

Also consider an EX model and just add the GT front skirt and side skirts. Holdcroft Honda do good deals on them.

was about to get onto DPFs :) long journeys are must of vehicles fitted with DPFs, so high milage diesel suggests that it has been used alot which is good believe it or not hahaha.

Thanks for such quick reply lads. You've all have been tip top. Will take all the info on board and hopefully do you all proud:)

My drama is whether to get Diesel or Petrol. I do a lot of short journeys but have a 20mth old son so expect to start clocking up the miles visiting zoos and the like.

The thing I've noticed is that when you speak to sellers they rarely have receipts and past MOT certificates; just stamps and I've read it makes a difference. So whilst I've seen a few (EX) I haven't even test driven any as yet due to this.

Cheers

LPG is a good idea, but at £1500 or so, it takes a long time to break even.

More people are realising the 2.0 petrol is a good compromise. Fairly quick, 40mpg on the motorway and no cambelt to change.

The diesel seems to struggle to better 40mpg on short runs and if it needs a new DPF at £1200 it wipes out any fuel cost savings.

My opinion if you want a diesel go German or honda for petrol on new cars.
German cars seem to suffer less DPF problems and give a very good MPG.
Also depends on the miles you are doing.
If your doing less than 15K a year then petrol all day long

your probably better off with the petrol...... just my opinion but diesels are only benificial if you do 70% long journeys

Yeah I know we dont like German cars, but my Dad has had 2 Merc E classes CDi with DPFs and never had a problem. He does fairly low miles also.

How does that work and what are the pros and cons to doing it Jason?
I've never had lpg but I wish I had now due to my Circumstances changing. I met a Honda owner that fits them to any car. He's never had any problems and you get the equivalent of Something like 50 mpg. There was a CRV that had already been converted in the Autotrader. Personally I think that would be an ideal car, especially if you needed the boot space.

Again, thanks for the champion responses I'm getting.

Looks like petrol I'm favouring but they're slim pickings though. More searches then it is.

Cheers

Yeah most used Accords are ex company diesels, some can be cared for, but most are abused.
The petrols tend to be private owners, but they are rarer, but keep looking.

Try autotrader, pistonheads and Ebay motors.

Has anyone got any feedback on Car Giant? They've got two Ex for around £11000 (11 & 61) and wondering what they're like.

Cheers

I would also suggest a petrol and quite like the idea of lpg as long as you see it as a long term purchase.

If you prefer the torque of a diesel then get one and we can remove the DPF and deactivate the EGR and it should then give you trouble free service.

These are all pretty good reliable cars now so any choice you make will be a good one as long as Its an accord with some history.

Car Giants stock is mostly 3 year old ex fleet cars.

Its ok if its cheap, but dont expect anything in excellent condition. Budget on a few hundred for replacing worn parts.

Car Giant have a good reputation, but it's worth reading up on the rusty sunroof problem before you go for an EX.

I've had two cars from Car Giant. No problems with either, in fact still have a 2006 iCTDI Saloon in Alabaster Silver Metallic. 145,000. Premier Tuning did their sorcery. She ran well before. She runs even better now (which I didn't think was possible) Great torque, great consumption. I hope to get my Ex 8th Gen Tourer worked on by Premier in good time too. I do recommend a diesel despite the petrol heads here, lol. By the way my left hand mirror does not go down when reverse is engaged. Is it broke or an EX GT thing only?

Try flicking the mirror switch over to the left passenger side, then select reverse

Right lads.

I've done it!! Got myself a type S 09 tourer and I think my wife should be worried:)

Absolutely brilliant! Everything about the car is spot-on; looks, features and drive.

Will upload some photos when it stops raining by me. Will look into a few things that were suggested before like the tuning etc.

Lastly, a big thank you to all for their contribution to my search for my new car. Invaluable

Cheers
Raf

Sounds good,

You've just gone through what I'm just starting to. I'm hoping to find a EX GT or Type S. They both seem to be a bit like hens teeth tho.

OMG! That's awesome. The switch to the left works and the left mirror goes down in reverse. Congratulations on your 8th gen. Love to see the pictures soon
