Hello

I wanted to get an opinion on finding an Independent Honda specialist that can replace the clutch & flywheel on a 57 plate 2.2 Turbo Diesel with 116k on the clock

In a nutshell, the clutch sometimes sticks close to the floor & prevents me changing gear, I work around it by tapping the pedal immediately & I can change gear again

I asked the Honda dealer in Telford to ***ess it, the upshot is Clutch & Flywheel replacement

How much did they quote for that? £1573

Can anyone recommend an independent specialist in the West Midlands area that may provide a better quote?

this comes up quite frequently. Several recent threads for you to read

the price you got probably included the cost of a new DMF (dual mass flywheel) which it may or may not need

you will see "HH" also gets mentioned, which is Holdcroft Honda, an Affiliate to this forum, but you won't be able to see the "Affiliates" section until you've made 10 posts. Maybe start a thread in the "Newbies" section and get your post count up there.

btw, HH aren't so far from West Midlands

This could well be a relatively simple clutch hydraulic system problem, i.e. either the master or slave cylinder... I hope so!

But, a already said, should the clutch need replacing, then Holdcroft Honda at Stoke would be a much better option, even if it is (slightly) less convenient for you.

Jon, are you implying that a Honda dealer would rip someone off by replacing clutch and DMF rather than considering and fixing a relatively simple clutch hydraulic issue ? (rhetorical question, as things like this have been known to happen)

It is admittedly unlikely but perhaps worthy of a second opinion, given the potential cost!

Thanks for the responses so far

I was quoted the secondary option of replacing the Clutch Master & Slave, that was £439.34 but the Clutch & Flywheel replacement was consired the more urgent of the problem

Interesting looking at the LUK parts cost £125 & £402 for the Clutch & Flywheel with VAT, £500 with the current discount code

There's no need to pay anywhere like that for clutch/DMF any decent indie will do for £700 but if I was you I'd pay the extra and goto HH they'd also let you know what the problem was ie master cylinder or clutch

^^ good advice.

You're not far from Stoke, let Holdcroft do it. You'll get an honest ***essment and reasonable pricing, backed by a main dealer service guarantee.

I phoned up Holdcroft for an estimate on Clutch & Flywheel: £526 for parts & £620 Labour with VAT, an improvement on the initial quote in the Telford area

I bet if you haggle you'll get for 1k

Adam, did you mention TA (this forum) as they give a discount for members (you usually need to know the "code" word, send a message to one of the forum moderators for it)

I wasn't aware of a discount for TA

I shall get in touch with a mod to see if they have a code word & speak with Holdcroft in the morning

No code needed just speak to someone in service and mention you are a member here

This used to happen to me occasionally. It turned out that the pedal was sticking on the new floor mat I'd put in.
