I recently (yesterday!) purchased a tourer with inbuilt satnav - I've had a couple of 7th gen saloons that were company cars, but now need a family work horse!

I'm still getting to know the car but have come up with an issue when I turn the key. The satnav starts and goes through the motions and then says the maps are old. There is an OK button on screen to press, but when I press it nothing seems to happen; nothing happens when I press the joystick either. Any suggestions on what I may be doing wrong?

When I start the car, the screen goes off completely and does not seem to respond to anything.

Any feedback more than welcome!!

Yes someone has at some point inserted a newer software revision in your unit which will have updated the firmware and then subsequently put the old disc back in.

Unfortunately once your firmware has been updated you cannot reverse it so you will need an up to date disc.

My theory is that someone bought a copy disc which updated it but then probably kept giving errors and they then put the working original older version back in before selling the car.

I forget how exactly, but a mate of mine used to have an Accord and was in the same situation at you. He managed to initiate the force download function and download the firmware from an older disc, thus overwriting what was there and got the unit working again. When you start the car, hold down the three buttons on the left of the buttons under the screen until you get through to a system menu. See if there's anything in there for force downloading disc content. I can't remember if this is the way to do it, but it's something to try.

^^ that would be interesting if it is possible, as I myself ended up buying a brand new genuine disc for the wife's FRV because I couldn't use the original disc anymore after using an ebay disc..

I'm sure I saw a thread on here somewhere that said something similar, but finding it would be another matter

I'm having the same issue,I got an updated copied disc, and now it rarely works!
Would be good if I could just put my old one back in.

You can downgrade back to your original disk because I did it on mine when the copied disk stopped working. I did try telling people not to bother with copied disks at the time but I got ignored.

I'll go out to my car shortly and have a look how I did it. It's fairly straightforward

Nice and easy.
Hold down the 3 left buttons to get into the setup menu.
Go down to Version.
On the next page you can now select Download.

Nice one Dave

Fantastic response guys - off out this afternoon so will try and see where I get to!

Thanks ever so much, and I'm sure further queries will follow.

Tried holding down the three buttons and got a bleep from the system after a few seconds - nothing happened though.

At what stage are you pressing the three buttons (map/menu/return)? I have tried when the Honda logo comes up, when the warning notice is displayed and then again when it says 'older version blah blah - OK'. Problem is I can't select OK and when I turn the ignition on the screen goes blank and there seems noting I can do.

:(

Doing a bit more research, I cam across a US site that said an alternative way to access the menu was to put a paperclip into a reset button on the nav unit which is normally located in the 'trunk'.

Looking in the boot I note there is a panel on the right hand side noting the 'premium' sound system - I suspect the nav unit is in there. Anyone looked? If so, how do you get into it?

I will get there one way or another, but ideally without spending a fortune on a new nav disc!!

Thanks for your help on this!

Yes 7th gen the did drive is at the bottom of the centre console. You can eject the disk if you want.
You get the original warning message which you need to acknowledge and then press the 3 buttons

Thank you all.

I will set the key to position two and then eject the disc after the warning message comes up where I can't then press the OK button.

Fingers crossed the three button method works in getting into the main menu for a forced download.

Hi guys, I've tried down grading my satnav today, but no joy.
I am getting a message about the disc being an older version, so pressed all 3 buttons it then beeps once but that's it, the screen doesn't change I've tried it with the key in all positions.
I've just got the grey box with writing in and no OK box either? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem, the only way to get everything working is to put the key on the ingnition and start almost instantly without doing the chek control.

Backto7gen did you manage to force the download? As I can't it just bleeps once and nothing happens, and today I found out I can't use the heater settings as they are on screen, so I have had to press auto to get the blowers working!

Anyone got any ideas?

The only way I could replicate that (to see if there's a way round it) would be to remove the DVD, and from personal experience (and from reading on here) I don't want to even do that.

Hopefully someone else might know.

I have definitely done it using the instructions I posted above. When I bought the car it had a later copied disk in which worked fine for a while until the normal read errors started which is common with copied disks. So I put the old disk back in and got the same warnings as you have said before I did the downgrade. If I have time I will do an upgrade and a downgrade later and video it all.

do you have an OEM DVD in the drive ?

also, the Lens on the laser might now need cleaning as well, lots of threads on that, I think Steve (stevarcade) did one

Yes I have put the original older version disc back in, sometimes it says it's an older version and sometimes it says cannot read disc so I wonder if it does need cleaning?

Yes it will definitely need to be able to read the disk for this to work.

Just goes to show that the 'cost cutting' shortcuts can sometimes end in more time expended and further cash spent to go down the correct route as advised in first place

After a few weeks dealing with work commitments I'm back online.

Sad to report that I have had no success in pressing the three buttons to get to the main menu, although the disc seems to being read as the message comes back as an old disc has been identified so the head appears fine.

I do have a newer disc that is a copy that is all scratched that can't be read by the player, although I have managed to copy the image onto my pc - it may be worth a try of trying to recreate a copy of the image, but I seem to remember reading somewhere the disc needs to be blue and the speed 1x. Anyone else read that?

Failing that, can you 'hard reset' the satnav system? The reason I ask is because we can't get access to any of the screen functions to adjust the heating etc!

At some stage I also need to change the courtesy bulb on the passenger side and one of the lights over the number plate not to mention a light under the heated seat indicator. The car needs some love!!

just because it can partly read the disc doesn't mean that the Lens is clean enough to read the entire disc

yes, seen a couple of threads on this before, but never needed to do it myself .....but as above, are you sure that the Lens doesn't need a clean ?

The only way I can replicate that would be to remove my disc and see what happens on mine, but from doing it once before, I don't want to try it again (I nearly had a heart attack when it kept trying to read the disc several times, when it succeeded I decided to never remove the disc again)

I'm in the same boat as u Backto7gen, but u can still use heater just press the AC button and the heater control screen comes on, set heating as normal and then screen goes to sleep, I'm pressing this everytime I get in the car just to get rid of the grey warning box as I drive at night most of the time.
