Hey. Just wondered if anyone has any good info on a cheap fix to sort my rust problem on offsode rear arch. Around 3cm in total (divided into 3 or 4 spots of it) and i just want to coat it with something to inhibit any further rust.

So far I just use some bike chain wax but wondered if people have a more permenant solution that I wouldn't need to reapply every week or so.

Thanks in advance

You'll probably find it's rusting from the inside of the arch mate rather than the outside. Usually what happens is road dirt mixed with water gets caked inside the arch, and it keeps moisture pressed against the metal work for long periods. This eventually penetrates the gaps where panels are joined, the metal corrodes from this point outwards and some time later you see it blistering through the paint on your arches... ask me how I know

I'd clean the inside of your wheel arches out (I wash the arches on my daily driver weekly now that it's winter) to slow it down for now, but the only proper/long term fix is to get the corroded metal cut out and new metal welded in :)

Oh shizers. Thats what my bodyshop mate said 18 months ago when i bought the car.!! Seems like theres no quick fix afterall huh? Thanks Josh

As Josh says the only long term solution is bodywork, but you can get some stuff from Halfords to sort it out for a year or so.

I'd probably wait until the summer for now, anything you try and paint on now wont dry properly and the salt will set if off rusting again.

In the summer, wash the arches out, dry and mask the affected areas, with masking tape, rub down with sandpaper, treat the rust with something like Kurust, then apply several coats of zinc primer, allow to dry and then apply top colour coat, or maybe hammerite in the same colour, as its more durable on a wheel arch lip.

Also apply some waxoyl or dynax underseal behind the wheel arch lips to help stop it rusting again.

My rear left wheelarch has the same symptoms, rust on the inside and it's getting visible and ugly already :( Talked to a bodyshop specialist about this, and yes, the best way to fix it is cutting off the rust metal and welding a new one. I'm also planning to do this after the winter...

Thanks people. Will probably do the kurust thingy in summer... maybe honda can match the correct colour for a slightly (I know) better finish...

Does anybody know how and is it possible to remove the whole rear panel on a tourer CM2 and put a new one? I found a very preserved one in the scrapyard, same color with no rust on the wheel arch.

Think its been done over on Honda Karma by the founder CJ. Big job, fairly pricey also, unless you can get cheap bodyshop labour.
