I notice Haynes dont do a manual for the UK Accord but do for the US version. Is it worth having do you think as there seem to be a lot of similarities under the skin even though they look quite different.

No don't buy one, it's virtually useless.

It was the first DIY guide that I bought for the car, back in September 2009, £15 on ebay.

The section on the engine is ok, but it only covers the 4 cylinder 2.4 engine and the V6 3.0 engine.

The section on the brakes is just about ok, apart from the fact that the rear brakes on the US car is a drum brake (I kid you not).

The section on the aircon was just about relevant, same goes for the gearbox, driveshafts, suspension.

But really, it's a different car. The Accord we have over here is more like the Acura TSX over there.

A couple of years later I bought a genuine Honda e-manual (DVD) for the European Accord, on ebay for £30, money very well spent.

Can you send me a link of such one. As i'm afraid to order the wrong one, as the usa accord is different from the us one, and even the TSX has much different parts

I bought my Haynes on ebay in 2009, not looked for any Haynes on ebay since then.

Best place to look at what Haynes are available is on their own website
a search there for Honda Accord
http://www.haynes.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CatalogSearchResultView?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&pageSize=300&beginIndex=0&sType=SimpleSearch&resultType=2&stringValue=honda+accord&searchTerm=%22honda+accord%22

....all USA, don't get one

If you want a Honda e-manual (DVD) again I bought mine on ebay a few years ago and I've not looked for one since then

I've just had a search on ebay.co.uk
"honda accord workshop manual -haynes"
"honda accord shop manual -haynes"
.... I can't find anything suitable either :(

The seller was "flintstone467" who is still active with 100% feedback, but he's not selling anything like that at the moment
He had lots of them for sale a few years ago, each as "buy-it-now", all priced around £30
I sent him a message asking him which one I should get and he told me which one to buy out of his listings
The DVD that came is a genuine Honda DVD, part number 69SEAC03
It actually includes both the Tourer and the Saloon, and covers the 2.4 and 2.0 petrol models
But, the files are all dated 2003 and the date menu is "locked" at 2003

Now that I know more about these, I think that any Accord e-manual 2003-2008 would be just as good if not better

I have no idea where these sellers on ebay get stuff like this, presumably they scour car boot sales all the time, if they get stuff like this any other way then I'd like to know !!

Recieved my disc today

Just an update, he's now selling the manuals via his own website...

http://winchestertrading.co.uk/Workshop%20Manuals.html

I just bought myself one.

Very good indeed but obviously produced for the dealer network with all of their special tools etc rather than DIY mechanics. Well worth having nevertheless.

Runs on Internet Explorer so if you use Chrome as I do it's a little tricky to get working but I got there in the end.

Ive just brought the dvd from the above link.
They say it cant be loaded to the hard drive,you also need the dvd in the drive at all times.this is false

If you delete all the other languages apart from English and German.the software always starts up in German,you can get it down from 8.5gb to 1.2gb and zip it down to 350mb.it can be stored online so other people can ***es it.

It can also be stored on your harddrive and makes the searching the pages instant

The manual itself is great.its like lego instructions for the accord

Some time ago someone gave me a copy of a copy (not a typo) of the full 2003-2008 DVD, and I had already done the above.

I remember you posting this but I didn't comment at the time. However, yesterday I wanted to get it onto a new laptop, but the copy (of the copy) had "faded" a bit and the Windows "drag-and-drop" kept stalling ....this wikipedia link explains why DVDs "fade" .... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_disc_recording_technologies#Longevity

Here is the best way to get the ESM in English only, onto a directory on the hard drive

1. I created a directory called "esm7gen" (you can call it anything you want)

2. you only need to copy the "_COM" and the "en" directories, and the file "HONDAESM.HTML" into the above

3. then go into the "_COM" directory, right-click on "LANGINFO.JS" and select Edit (it should open in Notepad)

4. there are only two functions in there, one is SetLang which looks like this

function SetLang()
{
var i=0;
gLng[i++] = LangItem('de','German');
gLng[i++] = LangItem('en','English');
gLng[i++] = LangItem('es','Spanish');
gLng[i++] = LangItem('it','Italian');
gLng[i++] = LangItem('pt','Portuguese');
}

5. delete all the languages except English such that the function now looks like this

function SetLang()
{
var i=0;
gLng[i++] = LangItem('en','English');
}

6. save the Notepad file back to disc

To start up the ESM

A.. double click on "HONDAESM.HTML" and "Allow Blocked Content" in I.E., then OK on "Execute Microsoft Internet Explorer", then No on "Do you want to close this window" (some messages can be eliminated by modifying a couple of other JS files, feel free to ask for more info)

B.. then expand the browser, click on "Shop Manual" and there it is, the ESM in English

Use of Robocopy if windows drag-and-drop keeps stalling

If you are having difficulty using windows drag-and-drop to copy the "en" directory from the DVD (it's about 500 MB) use Robocopy in a Command Prompt window (not available in XP). Robocopy is much slower than windows drag-and-drop but it will do a very very thorough job

You can suppress the verbose line-by-line (there are 56,000 files in the "en" directory) by using the /NFL switch

e.g. create the "esm7gen" directory in windows explorer, then drag "HONDAESM.HTML" into the directory. Then open a Command Prompt window, navigate to the "esm7gen" directory and, if the DVD is in E: , type this into the command prompt

robocopy E:\_COM _COM /e /NFL

then

robocopy E:\en en /e /NFL

It will take a couple of hours to do the "en" copy, and you will hear the DVD speed up and slow down as Robocopy checks the CRC for each file (it might throw up some "retrying" messages when it finds a dodgy file, and the DVD will run very slowly)

edit:
btw the "esm7gen" directory zips to only 138 MB

Your way is good I will have to try I did a different way I used http://arainia.com/software/gizmo/
To mount iso image to hard drive mine always starts in english although I will look at your method to reduce size [emoji106]

It depends on the version of Windows and I.E. as to whether the cookies "remember" the settings of the last run of the ESM.

On a laptop running Windows 8.1 , with I.E. 11.0.41 , it always wanted to start the ESM in German , whether from disc or using the method in #15. I got so fed up with this that I looked through the source code (when "HONDAESM.HTML" first starts up), and that's where I saw that the initial script references three JS scripts in "_COM".

Once I'd modified "LANGINFO.JS" it was obvious that the "de" directory was no longer required, so I went to other laptops running XP (that did "remember" previous ESM settings) and made the same mod (just to save space).

At only 138 MB zipped it might be worth someone uploading it and putting a link to it, I did think of doing this myself and giving passwords via PM, but it wouldn't be long before someone on another (non House Keeping) forum spotted these posts in this thread, and just did it for free to everyone (House Keeping is too uptight to give anything away for free) ;)

Is there any possibility that someone would be so kind to upload this to Dropbox via a zip or iso somehow for myself only? I have quite a bit of work to do on my CL7 Accord and would highly appreciate a manual of some sort to help me along the way.

Cheers

I've just uploaded the 138MB zipped "esm7gen" directory (english only) to a Dropbox account ----> https://www.dropbox.com/s/sqffgrgyzl86lhp/esm7gen.zip?dl=0

Available to anyone ;)

late edit:

I thought I better provide an image of "esm7gen" Properties when unzipped

Well he's had 2 years of selling them since my recommendation in #7 and my copy of a copy (nor the original) did not originate from him anyway ;)

I thought I better test it, so downloaded it and unzipped it, but it doesn't run properly, whereas the original is ok

I'm hoping that some of the files were corrupted in the unzipping and not in the zip before I uploaded it.

So if there are any problems with this let me know and I will try a re-zip and new upload.

Hi freddofrog

Thanks for the file, there might be a glitch though, I get this message when I try to open.
"Execute the Microsoft Internet Explorer® Version more than 5.0."

I am using version 11, any suggestions?

That's normal, even when using the DVD... Just say yes. It's a little 'clanky' to use in general, but the information available is fantastic.

Didn't work, laptop has gone weird, not responding after I set Explorer as default, gonna recover my laptop, and get new anti virus, only God knows what I have broken now.. First the car, now me laptop... Not a good week. Lol
Posted this via my phone, thank God that still works. Ha ha

So Freddofrog has wrecked your laptop!

You didn't need to set IE as default, when using the Honda ESM DVD I go to properties and select 'open using' and then select the IE. So Chrome remains my default browser.

Good luck in sorting out the issue. You may be able to simply 'step back' using a previous Windows 'restore' action?

If you right-click on HONDAESM.HTML and then Open With -> Notepad, near the end of the html code you will see this

<noscript>
<p>Execute the Microsoft Internet Explorer&#x00AE; Version more than 5.0.</p>
</noscript>

So it will always put up that message.
If you are also getting "allow blocked content" it's because your IE settings are set to notify you when javascript is going to run

When you say "didn't work" what happened ?

Also, what version of windows, and what version of IE ?

come on Jon this isn't funny, I'm wondering if one or more of the files was corrupted when I zipped the directory (56,000 files in total and it took about 10 minutes to zip them on an i5 laptop)

after I downloaded it and unzipped it, when I tried to launch any of the files from the right-hand menu it went into an infinite loop of launching IE, fortunately I knew how to kill it (not sure of the consequences if I hadn't but can't imagine it would be fatal)

as I say, I don't know if the corruption occurred during the initial zip, or during the unzip

Just read the tail end of this, freddo the file you have is it a .iso image file or are you trying to zip the individual files/contents?
If you have the disc image your better off zipping that then the recipient can "mount" the DVD image using virtual clone drive or similar (which is free by the way)
This method ensures no corruption of the source files as winzip (or whatever) only has to verify a single data packet.
