Hi pete again, ok so a few weeks ago I had the engine light on the dash. I took the car to my garage to find out what the fault was. My mechanic told me it read a misfire in cylinders 1&3. He put in some new sparks and cleared the fault. Next day it came on again. So took it back and he said it maybe the coil packs so he moved coil packs 1&3 into 2&4 to see if it was definitely the packs. Light cleared again and two days latter came back on again. So today had it hooked up to read the fault and it still said misfire in cylinders 1&3. Any help will be great.

That mate I can't answer. But what I do know is that its not running right. The engine runs roughly for a couple if seconds when first started up in the morning. Also when ticking over you can feel the engine through the steering wheel like a vibration.

How many miles has the car done? Have the valve clearances been checked? As Brian said if you can get the fault codes that will help. But from what you're saying I would guess the codes would be p0301 and p0303.

Hi Paul, the car has only done 56k. Will try and post the fault code's tomorrow.

I would start off with getting the valve clearances done first clear the codes and try that. Also check the coolant level, a low level can cause some problems as well

Ok so the fault codes are P0302 and P0303 random multiple misfire. It was a snap-on unit.

P0302 is cylinder 2 and P0303 is cylinder 3.

there is a very long checking procedure, which includes ....
injectors
coil packs
spark plugs
wiring to the coil pack
fuel quality
fuel pressure

What's the service history on the car? Has it had the 25k and the 50k done either by Honda or a reputable garage?

service history isnt great to be honest, first year of the cars life only did 3 k and I think its only had 6 service and one of them was mine when I first got the car last Novenber. 2 services where done by Honda (first two).

Get your mechanic to do the valve clearances first while the rocker cover is off inspect cam shafts for wear (highly unlikely on this model). As you have said he has swopped plugs and coil packs you can eliminate that. If valves haven't cured it try swooping injectors then you can eliminate that from the list

Yes thanks mate he is going to do that in a few weeks as he is busy. Will keep you updated. If it is the injectors, how much are they each any ideas?? Or don't I want to know ££££!!!!

Without looking it up I have no idea. I have never had to replace injectors on a petrol Honda yet.

Some news, so I filled up the car at sainsburys and the following day the light came on. Yesterday I filled it up with shell petrol (ron 95) and light has gone out today!!!!! Ever herd of this??

Well am glad that's sorted now. Thanks for the advice and **** take.

Great light on again today now re booked into the garage.

That's what the pic in #20 implied ....coincidence (of the homeopathic variety)

I've had my CM2 for 9 years now, done 85k miles in that time, almost always filled up on Tesco 95 RON, sometimes Morrisons 95 RON, and very occasionally a dash of Shell or BP or whatever on a motorway to get me home.

If you haven't had the car long, there is the possibility that one or more injectors were replaced and the ECU was not put through a learn procedure. Otherwise, if you've had the car a long time and if the plugs and injectors and coils have been swapped and no difference found, then a fault may have developed in the wiring, or fuel pressure is varying, or possibly oil pressure (latter would affect the VTC).

Without a Honda HDS, a check of VC's is the simplest thing to be done next, but IMO the VC's would have to be miles out to give that problem.

ok thanks guys, am starting to reget buying the car now as had nothing but hastle since november last year..So a 4k car is going to cost me another 1k on top.

ask a Honda dealer how much they would charge for a diagnosis using their HDS

***uming that the mechanic you've taken it to did swap the plugs/coils/injectors and did find the same DTC's, my money would be on fuel pressure or an ECU learn procedure

Ok so new update, car whent in last week and they swaped injectors and around still same fault. So he done a compression test and it failed on cylinder 2. It read 120, whatever 120 is. He said the head needs to come off and have a look. He said it was a first for him. About a £1000 by the time the head is skimed and valves sorted!!!
