Just to add to the database of ABS sensor replacements, I changed my RR unit today. I identified the faulty unit by connecting pins 4 and 9 on the connector under the RH side of the dashboard with a paper clip and counting the flashes on the ABS light. I further ascertained that there wasn't a fault in the rest of the wiring by unplugging the unit and checking for any continuity between the relevant wire in the under bonnet ABS unit and earth, which there wasn't. I bought one of these German-made units http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271489416179?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
I tried removing the sensor by levering, drilling and fitting a large self tapper to gain leverage etc. to no avail - I suspected this would be the case. Doing what I should have done from the beginning I removed the caliper ( tying it out of the way), the caliper bracket, disc and wheel bearing. This allowed access to use a long punch. This broke off the tip of the sensor which allowed a smaller punch to be located in the hole. I then located the large punch on the end of the smaller punch and was able to drive it out. I cleaned the hole and fitted the new unit with a smear of Teflon grease around the O-ring and the counterbore part of the hole.
After reassembly I cleared the ABS memory - something the local Honda dealer didn't do when they replaced the LF sensor they broke when they changed the wheel bearing a few years ago - this initially threw me when I initially got two fault codes before remembering their work.
I'm sorry but I didn't take any photos but it all becomes clear when doing the job.For around 28 quid and a few hours work it represents a big saving on what Honda would charge.

Hi thinboy

Can I ask you how you cleared your ABS memory. I found a few fault codes by using terminals 4 & 9 as you did but don't know how to reset the system.

Any ideas??
