Had a letter from Honda the other day re the recall to replace possible faulty airbag/s

On reading more about this, it seems the issue could be serious as some people are said to have been injured by shards of metal in even a small impact which caused the airbag to deploy.

How concerned are others?

Just get it done man. The issue relates to the passenger airbag either under or over inflating. I don't know which. But they do all the work for free and it takes about 30 minutes. Any respectable Honda dealership will provide you with a cup of tea/coffee and some reading material while you wait.

I work for one of the big german makes (not the group with about 12 brands in it or the other one that makes vans) There must be a huge factory somewhere that supplies airbags to the entire planet as we have been running this recall for the last couple of years. On the current batch I have returned about 500/600 of these bags for the same issue.

As Stevearcade states it's just a case that in the event of the accident the bag will either not inflate enough of inflate to much to quick, when your time comes get yourself booked in asap as if it's anything like what I have experienced there will be an initial supply followed by potential backorder situations resulting in long lead times to get the bag changed.

There's no reports of injuries in Europe according reports, apparently it's only high heat and humidity areas that are of major concern, just book it in and get it done.

Seems we can't just " get it done"

Honda says they are waiting for sufficient supplies and will send further instructions when they are ready.

The issue is damp getting into the propellant which causes a bigger bang than it should. In the USA one lady had a minor bump and was killed. Police said she looked as if she had been shot in the face.

Metal shards from the airbag parts.

Take ur recall letter down to honda and they check ur airbags if they fall within the effected batches, then they order you one in if so. I had mine done last month, the airbag came in within a week of my first visit and i was offered a courtesy car on both occasions, however the initial check only took like 20 minutes but i took full advantage of the new Civic Tourer (albeit diesel) on the actual Airbag replacement fix. Cant complain really as it was all free!

Cheers, I'll give them a call first as they are 20 miles away.

I have been wondering about swapping the car for a Civic but the road tests tell me the petrol ones are sluggish and we can't have a diesel due to short journeys and DPF issues.

Accord goes like a rocket if needed.

Just booked mine in for next week, had the letter in March but haven't got around to it. They also said there is an outstanding recall to be done for a window switch on my car.

Mr Honda, I put my number in and it said it wasn't needed then I got the letter to have it done .

Got mine done today, they had the car for 2 hours! There was no recall on the Accord, they wrote my reg down wrong and thought it was a CRV!

No paperwork was given to me to say it had been done, did anyone else get any?

Oh well, I guess it's not too important on a 12 year old car and I'm keeping it for as long as I can anyway.
