Hi,

I'm pretty mad that mine 2004 ctdi doesn't has a trip computer!!! So I need to figure something out about this! My first thought was to put some OBD-II reader and try with some smartphone apps? But I bough 2 readers and both was faulty. So I couldn't try this. Has anybody tried this? If yes, what reader and software are used to get this trip information ?

My second (much, much harder to do) thought was to put an instrument cluster from a face-lift car. First, I'm not sure is it possible at all, and what will be need, if it's possible. Probably new wiring loom (because the gauges cluster's connectors are different). The worst will be if the ECU should be changed, this will lead to immobilizer and multiplexer fuse-box change too. I'm not sure are the fuse-boxes different for those models. If the needed data is transmitted via the CAN-BUS, and inside the instrument cluster the calculation are done, and then displayed to the graphic LCD, this could be OK with the current ECU. Then only a harnesses changes should be done to fit the new connector.
I have the service manual for both cars, but I'm unable to get the needed info. The search is probably the most stupid in the world!!!
If someone has some idea about this, please share it. I really want to get this trip computer thing up and running.
I will post here the connectors of both instrument clusters. The face-lift one has 36P connector, and the pre-facelift has two - one 30P and one 10P connector. If someone can help me find those connectors' pinouts will be great. If I see the pinouts differences I could try to install a face-lift cluster on my car, without changing anything else.

Cheers!

Will iOS software like DashCommand and some Wi-fi OBD scanner do the job? If it can show the fuel consumption, it will be fine for me.

Hi, I am also looking for a solution to get a trip computer.
So after looking for the options, i also stumbled to a trip computer called ScanGauge. Have you hear about it? It is a small device with a display, its connected to you obd, and you get all the information you want. You can install the device on your dash or somewhere else.
The benefit of the Scangauge according to me: With this option you dont have to change your instrument cluster, above all, you even get more information from the scangauge regarding your engine etc.
The disadvantage of the Scangauge according to me: I dont like its design.
According to me, if there would be another device like the Scangauge, with an more intresting design, then it would be the perfect solution.
