Hey guys, I think it's the end of the road of my atR, still drives and still use on a daily basic, but it's got rust patch near jack up point, and a estimate for repairs is going to cost around 4-500, so I've decided to either sell the whole car, or break it, or the most easiest options would go to webuyanycar and let them take it from me, but I would like some advice from you guys on what I should do.

Also I've decided to get a DC5, coz I still love my Hondas, and mostly the vtec.

Good luck with webuyanycar - I got a quote (just for fun) on my W 1.8 S hatch. £75. Think I'd rather dig a hole and bury it...

I rather break it, but it's time consuming. And don't have that much time on my hands

Atr stuff sells quick if you got a place to store it break it. You wont get anything for the shell if it has no motor or gearbox. But the engine and gearbox will make you more.

Sell it, £400-500 isn't much, if that was my car I would have repaired it.

Theres not many left on the road so it would be a big shame if you broke it all down. Someone will want it somewhere so tick on ebay.

I'm speaking the obvious, but if the car still has MOT, stick it on ebay or similar ASAP, because you won't get as much if a trailer is needed to get it

I would also repair it, £400-£500 is not much on a car that fetches 2.5k-3k and its still a rewarding car to own and drive, I think you will be dissapointed with a DC5 after owning an ATR,

If you don't want to repair it, sell and let someone else repair and enjoy the car.

Just my opinion.

Whats so bad about the DC5?

Its just an overpriced EP3, hideous interior with the ford like push vents, rubbish seats and driving position, steering is the same as EP3 so lifeless, hasn't got full double wishbone suspension, the K20 is smooth and lacks any raw feel, needs about 1K to make it great, I can go on...

Theres a reason EVO magazine said it has lost the DC2 magic.

as above really.seats kill your back and legs if driving for more than 45 mins.they need a lot more than £1k spent on them to be good.the rear suspension is to hard, making the car skitty.

the dc5 chassis is from the honda stream

but i love the k20a.just needs a few mods

As much as you talk bad about the dc5 I'll still get it, yes I agree with the interior being a bit hideous, but it's not the worse I've seen but the shape and looks does it for me. Don't get me wrong I loved the atr, but it just felt I was throwing money at it, and when the rust hole Popped up, It just told me to change for another car, and looked at the dc5

ive just seen your thread from january.all your problems in one thread,

did you fix all the problems you had?

i can now understand why you want to sell up,but dont give up.

whats £500 to get your car fixed..just think a clutch change in a dc5 will cost you £500

I'm in talks with the OP, might be willing to take it and restore it depending on condition.

It would be a shame to kill an icon.

Btw I know a few people who have had rust with DC5's so don't think its immune from it,

Its up to you but the ATR is a much better car in every way.

Hope you do, theres not many of them now.

The oil leak got sorted out, which was the rear seal. The water leak was coming from the radiator, as it had a little tiny hole, which Got replaced.

I think it's a really good car, but it wasn't doing my pocket any justice, and I think the rust hole was the last straw for me,

A DC5 may have identical issues, will you be throwing that away after?

Not giving you a hard time mate but I just see too many people these days give up on something thats not a big deal.

And eight years later the whining begins: "best car I ever had" "wish I had never sold it" "just reminds me how much I miss my ATR" etc. etc.

If OP doesn't like to spend on rust repairs (who would?) then just sell it to someone who doesn't mind a bit of a weldathon.

Just to ensure this thread stays on track

Sometimes its easy to say that just a little more will fix the car but when you have replaced so much then you really can't justify more.

Hope that this car finds a new owner but sometimes it comes to passion over cost which keeps these cars on the road.

Have to disagree on prices as ATRs now swap hands for as little as £1300 as runners.

Having owned an ATR myself they are great cars and I do miss that car. They now suffer from rust and although it may seem a little they do rot a fair bit underneath.

So hope this car finds a new home but can understand his reasons to sell it.

There is definitely a marked difference between the older DOHC VTEC engines and the later I-VTEC engines. I imagine on paper and in real world performance the later engines are better, but the older engines are more fun just for the hooliganism factor - it's a rush when you get that surge of power higher up in the revs and it impacts on the way you have to drive the car on those 'spirited' driving sessions.

I've had to drive my CL1 Euro-R a few times recently which reminded me how much I missed an H22A engined car, to the point that I had the garage pick up my BB4 Prelude last week for recommissioning :D

All that said there's no doubt I'll have a CL7 Euro-R at some point, the main attraction over the CL1 being the 6 speed gear box. I must be growing up :(

Many old Hondas suffer from rust, talking from experience here, but I guess it depends on the individual and how much time and money that they want to put in,but as said don't think DC5's will have no rust.

Sure it's not to everyone taste, and I'm sure there's guys out there that say the dc5 is better than the atr, but it's all down to personal preference, and clearly you like the atr more.

Although I didn't ask for opinion of the dc5 in the thread coz I have already made my mind up. But getting back to the thread, I should break it? Or let someone have it and keep it alive?

i think the reason ive not owned an ATR is because i dont want to go back to 5 speed.lol

serious question.what needs fixing on your ATR?
how many miles has it done?
how much do you want to sell it for?
Don't bother mate, he has clearly decided to give it the death penalty. The steering wheel is probably already in eBay.
