Hello fellow troubleshooters,

From when I bought my '04 Tourer, the A/C system hasn't worked.

I'm currently troubleshooting the issue.

My findings :

- A/C System doesn't leak at all, even after refill almost no cold air (sporadically a gush or cold air with higher revs)
- Clutch of the pump seems to be engaging, but seems like it's not pumping
- On the radiator is a connector (A/C Pressure Switch?) when I connect it, the A/C condensor fan keeps blowing. Doesn't matter if A/C is on or off
- No faults detected after ODB2 diagnostic check
- No errors on dash

Am I right in thinking the pump is broken?

Thanks for helping! :)

There was a thread a looong time ago where someone found that their compressor clutch was slipping. The compressor also has an over-current trip which can prevent the clutch from being engaged. Otherwise, yes it is possible (though rare) for the compressor pump to simply not pump properly any more. But it could be other issues

If you are not getting warm/hot air blowing out either then it could be
A. blower not working properly
B. blocked pollen filter
C. motorised flaps stuck
D. faulty temperature sensor

There's a built-in diagnostic in the car that might help. read this link from this point to the end

also read from here onwards

The A/C relays and pressure sensor on the petrol car are very easy to trouble-shoot (not so the diesel), you can check them as in my DIY (no need to read past the first page as the car is a petrol, but make sure you read down to #15)

Note also that the condenser (aircon radiator) might be badly perished, that will definitely reduce the cold air that comes out. A badly perished condenser also gets mentioned much later on in the DIY thread
