Tailgate won't open!

After the fiasco I've had recently with fuel filter caps being seized and my O/S Rear caliper seizing resulting in a full rear set of pads and discs, the last thing I need is to arrive at my car and find it odd that the indicator lights don't flash when I unlock the car. Further to this when I try to stick a sizeable package in the boot, the tailgate won't budge! I can't even open it, its as though the manual handle is disconnected completely, no whirring from the motor or warning beep when tried from the key. Add to this the fact the N/S front window won't budge and the N/S folding mirror is being just as stubborn. I'm going to try some self diagnosis and will hopefully find something at fault. Any recommendations beside checking the tailgate controller and the window switches for continuity?

Thanks!

Oh yours is 8th gen... Don't know if the below will apply.

Tailgate wise... Possible broken wires at the hinge of the tailgate.

Can you open the tailgate manually from inside the tailgate? You will need to crawl inside, pop the interior cover off and pull the latch to open the tailgate manually (the exterior handle is electrical).

Could be related to the movement of fuse box when doing the fuel filter? try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes it may reset all the "gubbins" I have no better suggestions.!

Its usually the passenger door electric window switch has packed up. The wiring for the tailgate is related to it.

See if you can get one from a breaker, quite a few 8th gens being broken on Ebay.

Hey guys thanks for recommendations. I've tried my hand at some self diagnosis, managed to pop open the boot via the manual lever hidden inside behind the panel (just above lock) and boot closes perfectly on the key. Discounted the tailgate from the problem. Did have a look at the passenger side window switch, as when I turned on the sidelights, the 'find in the dark' light on the switch wasn't illuminated. It was the only one out of all the window switches inside. Popped the panel out and disassembled the switch and looks to be no problem with it, tried continuity checking the plug (car side) and didn't get much back, so either my dodgy lecky knowledge or the switch just isn't getting power suggesting wiring. Regardless I don't have time to mess about with a tailgate clamped shut so it's off to the auto electronics tomorrow, with me behind hanging my head in shame that it beat me . I'll keep you all posted of the result!

Hello!
Just a follow up to let you know how I got on. Turns out the auto-electrician didn't have much luck and recommended a dealer job. Since the car was booked to get a new (free) sunroof due to corrosion, I asked if they could also have a look at the tailgate/window/wing mirror fault. As it would transpire, the front passenger window switch was indeed at fault as I first suspected, so after a hefty £200 bill I left with the car in good working order. I could have got a breaker to supply the switch, but Honda had fitted one as part of the diagnosis and asked if I would like it left in, and in the name on convenience I folded quicker than a napkin at a dinner party! Hope this is useful if anyone else comes across such a fault, try a switch from the breakers first ;)
