electrical power issues

Hello All

So we was driving back from the cinema last night after watching the new hunger games movie. When i got near my home I notice the lights started to flicker and everything started to dim inside and the radio was going on and off. First i thought i was getting abducted by aliens all the electrics were going nuts.

When i got home with no lights! I turned the engine off and tried start it but it wouldn't start. So this morning I put the car on charge for an hour or so and it started up fine.

My guess is that it's alternator. what do you guys think?

Read the d.c voltage, pos neg battery terminals with engine running should be about 14.5 volts or better, if not then suspect the alternor.

Sounds like alternator to me. Put the headlights on and rev the engine, if the lights don't brighten then suspect alternator.

Hi Guys

So I got my self down to the toolstation and bought my self a multi meter. I hooked it all up

The reading with the engine off was around12.6
When i started the car this shot up to 14.0
When I switched everything on full, wipers, lights, heated seats, blowers & 2 phones on charge the voltage dropped to about 13/12.9 turned everything off was back at 14.

So to me it seems like the alternator is doing it's job. I might just check over all the connections

Not good enough you need 14.5 at least.

Thanks for this. It explains a lot. So according to my test results it appears that It could be that my alternator is weak.
