Hi all,

7th gen Accord owner; with the K20A6 engine. I've noticed a rattle on what appears to be the left hand side of the engine bay. It only happens above 4500-5000 RPM, and only happens when accelerating hard. If I let off the throttle the sound dissappears even if the revs are still above 4500-5000 RPM.

The noise sounds almost like it's coming from the passenger front wheel; but appears to be an engine related sound.

Any comments are much appreciated.

If you use something like youtube and then post a link we should be able to ****yse.

Possibly a driveshaft or cv joint.. Is it only engine speed related or vehicle speed related also? Does it do it in any gear or also when coasting if you Rev engine?

I've been told it sounds like the chain and tensioner? I have only described the sound over the phone to a Honda specialist. I also have a rattle on cold start that lasts a couple of seconds if that.

Chain and tensioner are on drivers side, i thought you said it's passenger side

As Fahad said chain is on the drivers side behind your pulleys and belt.
If it was chain related I would say the noise would be there all the time.
Are you sure your valves don't need checking for clearance.
If so they will be noisy when cold.
If not then driveshaft

Thanks for the replies. The noise is on the passenger side; so I'm relieved it isn't that. Was quoted £750 to do chain and tensioner.

I'll try getting a video up soon (just moved house this weekend).

The rattle only happens on cold starts so am hoping it's the valves. Been quoted £80 to do any adjustment.

F6HAD,

The noise is engine speed related. If I let off the throttle, the noise disappears.

I'll try coasting and revving to check the sound. It makes the noise in all gears up to top of 3rd. I haven't checked 4th yet.

Then it's something in your drivetrain mate. Either gearbox, loose flywheel or maybe a driveshaft or cv joint..

I think there was a similar thread (quite a while ago) about the oil pump on this engine ?

(I'm going by the fact it only does it when engine is cold)

btw I don't think that the ECU will allow the engine to go over 4,500 rpm when out of gear

Well I've tried replicating the sound for a video.....

It has gone! No idea why.

Sorry for bringing this thrad up but I have the same rattle (See 1st post) on my CU2 2.4...so if anybody knows whats the problem please tell me...
