So my Accord is for sale currently and I had a gentleman come and look at the car this evening.

Was a little low on oil so topped it up with about a litre and on the dipstick it read half way between min and max.

Took it for a test drive and the guy was really happy, no issues and drove really well. (Ive had no issues what so ever)

He comes in the house, sorts the cash and V5 and goes out to drive away...

And the car keeps cutting out!!

Turns the key and it will start then die straight away, second time turning it starts up and idles perfectly...

It does this same die'ing issue and then starting fine several times.

It did this when I topped up the oil previously but then was fine ever since, don't know if the engine isn't used to running with more oil than it has been?

Any help would be great as I want to be able to go back to the guy who still wants the car with an answer or fix.

Thanks alot

Liam

Was the car on level ground when you checked the level? also it just could be the dreaded ignition switch failure and it's just bad coincidence that it happened when you're trying to sell it.

Thanks for the reply! Yes car was on level ground and was below minimum. Haven't heard about this ignition switch failure.

Thanks alot

Local Honda specialist said today he thinks it was probably just the VVC unit getting used to running with a lot more oil than it has been!!

I've never heard of such a thing but I'm no "specialist", hope your buyer's still interested.

He unfortunately is not... Frustrating!

Yeah I hadn't seen it on my google but I've not got an ignition problem happening at all since so was definitely something to do with the oil topped up!
