I've an intermittent fault with my car. The centre display that shows the AC temp and radio channel occasionally goes out. If you look really closely you can see the display is still there and working, but it's just dark. It's been looked at by an auto-electrician who cleaned the contacts and it worked fine for about a week and now it's started playing up again.

I'm hoping the specialist TypeAccord knowledge knows what the problem is and also what the fix is.

Thanks! :)

Attached is a link of what the display *should* look like - https://www.dropbox.com/s/80a14so6bebyox7/2016-04-21%2016.29.16.jpg?dl=0

Mostly for future reference: I deduce that the green connector on the unit seems to be the most likely culprit. Guessing it's a call to the local auto-electrician.

Thanks

I bash the dash and it fixes it for a few days but eventually it goes off again. I'll pull it out and see. I've read top and bottom to put paper/rubber in now. I hope it's obvious when I rip it out :p

Right, I finally took out the top display, took it apart, and re-soldered a few dry joints. It works perfectly now, it's so nice to be able to see the time again even with the heater set to 28

I've nicked the picture below from this other thread --> http://typeaccord.co.uk/forum/topic/17885-loss-of-display-at-top-of-dash/

The green socket is numbered 1 to 10 (from left to right in the picture) and it's pins 9 and 10 that are dry.

You can also see that the display pins have gone a bit gunky, same thing on mine, and I re-soldered the last 3 at that end.

To get to the solder under the green socket, you can lever is up (gently) to just over 45 degrees, and then get a soldering iron in underneath.

The fault is definitely caused by heat in the sun. Still, at least it took about 12 years to happen, although quite a lot of the time the front of the car was not facing south. I bet this happens a lot in Spain etc.
