2009 *th Gen Accord
Hi,
I have a 2009 8th Gen Accord that's run perfectly for 2 years. About a year back the DPF light came on, got a Honda regeneration that worked for a week then issue came back. I had the DPF removed and all worked fine for 6 months.
Got an EGR valve engine light (can't remember the code) but had it cleaned and no issues since.

Last week the car turned off on the motorway and has done it a number times since, OBDII alarm is P0087 - Fuel Line Pressure Too Low.

Symptoms:
Car drives fine 99% of the time
Accelerates quickly/normally to 4k rpm and is happy when I speed around testing it!
With cruise control or holding accelerator steady there's a slight difference in the speed and I notice it isn't a steady pace around 1500-2500 RPM, like small stutters
Will get a couple of bigger stutters, engine light comes on and engineer completely turns off (no limp home mode)
Car restarts every time perfectly
After the work below I took it for a 15 mile trip and no issues but the problem returned this morning on the motorway and it died twice

Work To Date:
Dropped to random garage for oil and oil filter(Genuine) change
Fuel filter changed with Genuine part to try to fix the P0087 fault
Fuel line blown back towards tank in case any blockage

Will be dropping to garage tomorrow but sounds like his next step is a €1k fuel pump, anyone had this and know what could be the cause?

Thanks in advance.

I've seen and solved this on an IDtec. It's a failing fuel pressure relief valve, similar issue as the ictdi (but they don't share the same part).

We swapped over the valve from another working car and it improved but didn't solve it. We then swapped the whole rail over with the valve and it was cured.

On the egr issue, when we do the DPF we also switch off and physically blank the egr.

Thanks for the reply. From reading about this valve it seems a lot of people have issues with starting the car when warm/hot, I have none of this at all - starts perfectly when doing 70mph down a motorway (thank god!).

If the valve swap didn't fix it for you but the rail swap did, could it have been a faulty/blocked rail (seems unlikely as I type it)?

Any advice would be great and will make sure to have a chat with the mechanic about it.

The rail is really just a solid fuel manifold but there is a sensor on one side from memory.. They're not expensive if you can get one from a breaker.. If changing the fuel filter hasn't solved it then this probably will.

Starting problems relate to the 7th gen not the 8th gen. There's not much evidence of this being a widespread problem on the 8th gen yet but I have seen one so far myself which we solved.

Quick update, after the oil, oil filter and fuel filter swap it died twice but has been running perfectly for the last 400km or so, gave it a good rally and also a lot of slow low rev driving.
Mechanic recommended leaving it as it could have been a bit of dirt in the line etc. The car seems more responsive/finicky now, when I let off the throttle the engine breaking kicks in more aggressively than normal and a light tip of the accelerator gives you a kick of acceleration - not sure how else to describe that.

Also noticed if I sit in neutral and hold the revs at 1500 it will increase to 2000 for a few seconds, then drop back to 1500, this is a cycle that happens every 30 sec or so, is this normal? Doesn't happen when I'm sitting still and not revving it!

Thanks

That doesn't sound right to me.. But maybe someone who owns one of these can confirm.
