Hi guys new to the forum

Has anyone got any good advise on modifying the 2.0l vtec engine fitted to my 2001 accord. I'm struggling to find any parts for this car. I already have a full mongoose Atr exhaust system and induction kit. Any idears

Thanks guys

Hi I'll put up some pictures later, I'm looking at getting more power out the engine

Im very familiar with the F series engines, So you have Manifold, Sports or decat, then a catback? The B6 particularly responds well to a intake setup, and also a Camshaft.

The ECU is not easly tuned in stock state, so a replacement aftermarket one would be needed, or a P06 or P28 from a Civic LS as thats fully adjustable. Vtec controller would be good also, moving it from 4250rpm to 3800-4000, meaning it less likely to fall outer vtec in gears 1-2-3.

If that doesnt tickle your fancy then find the Accord type R engine, H22a7 that bolts straight in no messing about,212bhp done.

thats some food for thought there.

Ok that sounds good, with regards to the lsi ecu would it fit straight into my car and would it need to be re-mapped.

Also where would be a good place to find a camshaft, I have had a good look around and cannot seem to find one for the f20b6

My engine mods so far are

Jap speed 4-2-1 manifold and down pipe
Thanks for your replies
Vtec direct de-cat
Mongoose atr cat back exhaust
Piper induction kit sitting behind the headlight

Lovemyaccord (Simon) on here has "contacts" with vtec direct, which might be a good place to start within the UK regarding the camshaft. However failing that you can get one from the USA from Bisimoto engineering. His is God when it comes to Honda tuning, he specialises in F series mainly. Right now im saving for a L2 Bisi cam for my 4th gen.

As for the ECU it needs to be reprogrammed. This can be done via Chrome, a Honda Civic and Accord specific free software by your self. Or get it done by a dyno place. But if you can get hold of a base map for your engine, and stick it on the Civic ECU you can run it straight like that, but there be no gains, until you alter it obviously.

Also is you car black? What part of London you from?

Ok so I'm going to go down the camshaft route, sorry but some more questions coming

1 will I have to fit valve spring and a new cam adj pully
2 will the car still have vtec I.e the vtec lobes on the cam.
3 will the car need to be remapped or will it still run ok with just the cam fitted
4 what kind of power gains am I going to be looking at with the mods I already have

Once again thanks.

1. If entry level camshaft upgrade like Level 1 10% improvement no springs or pulleys needed neither a ecu remap is necessary

2. Yes

3. It will always be better to remap more gains will be had, but a remap is not necessary for the cam to run properly.

4. For road use and maintaining a stock idle, the most popular are the L1 10% = 14.7bhp L2 15% = 22.05bhp. Thats ***uming the car is stock, which it isnt so you might get a bit more out of it with your setup. But with 15% improvement cams i would recommend valve springs too.

Ok thanks let's email bisimoto now and get a quote, I'll keep you guys informed

I can't under bisimotos website, it says f series sohc non vtec, And f20 engines dohc ?

Yours is SOHC vtec you want this one http://bisimoto.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5_9_66_71_86&products_id=287

But just send a email saying its a F20B6

Though it shouldnt make any difference. The camshaft profile F20a in mine is exactly the same as the F22a it will be the same for the F20B and F22B

£225+ shipping

and if you go for the springs too then thats £115

It sounds alot but for the power gained its good.

Is this applicable to F18B2? B)

Ok i got bisimoto to Update his website to include the F20B6 engine, And yes the camshaft is the same as the f18

Hey dude, just to add to this with a Cam shaft upgrade, no matter what level you're going for it's ALWAYS best to upgrade the springs. It's not neccesary, but always a good precautionary move.

Also, other than the shaft, zorst, de-cat and induction, the only other option available is FI. I used to have a 2.0 6th with the same engine F20B6, and the prices for a full job (inc. ECU, map, kit and fitting) start at about 6000.

Just quickly when fitting cams to a car you will see an improvment, but if you want to get the best then you'll have to go the route of a new ECU, something like Hondata will be fine.

Hope this helps a little more.

Si.

Hey guys, I've been pondering this idea for a few months now, I (my dad) has a 1999 Accord ES F20B6 and he's getting a new car soon so I should be getting it because I generally tend to do most maintainance work on it and I was wandering whether I could slip an ATR engine into it, however, I still want to retain the automatic gearbox, Four speed with tiptronic. Do you think this is possible and will it be too much work for a 15 year old to complete over 6 months?

Preludes came with Auto H22a as an option, so there is such a thing as a Auto H22a gearbox, id go for the prelude setup its cheaper, more common, but only 185bhp oppose to 212bhp

Any H series engine will slip in to the place of an F.

Not too sure about the gearbox issues though. Shouldn't imagine it'll be problem if you manage to find a donar H series with the box, loom and ECU included. As Marcus has said the A is 185bhp as opposed to 212 in the A7. But you WILL NOT be able to mate an H22A7 to an auto box.

When changing the engine you'll need some custom mounts for the H22, but these can be bought from HOND-R. They're a company in Oxford that specialises in swaps and Honda work. They're highly recommended. Might be worth a call to them to get some in detail information.

Right, but since they are the same engine, shouldn't I theoretically be able to modify the engine to get a power output similar to that of the Accord Type R? and does that mean that the standard F20B6 auto (from the accord) wouldn't be compatible with the atr engine?

The two engines only have few things in common. The only way you'll get serious power out of the F20 is to go the FI route. But this will cost upwards of £6000.

The auto box on the 'normal' accords will not mate to the H22 engine. To be honest i'm not sure why you'd want an auto box with 185bhp on tap anyway?

Sorry i should have clarified. The H22A from an auto lude will work on the Accord as you'd be taking all the running gear and putting it into the other car.

However the H22A7 from the ATR will not work with an auto box.

Sorry for the confusion.

No probs and thanks Simon, I think right now an engine swap isn't really viable since I don't have enough money to buy an engine and i don't have the knowledge to wire everything up again and put in mounts and I don't know what else I'd have to do :/ hoppefully one day though :D
Also I'd like an auto box becausse it would fit in with the appeal of the accord as a comfortable car. Also because the first time I drove a manual I thought that the clutch was an ON/OFF thing rather than progressional (as most driving games would suggest) so I reversed a knackered old Avensis into a parking space with literally 30 stalls. The second time was a bit more successful but I don't understand how you can parallel park a manual car, it seems like epic effort :/
