Sorry to ask what is probably a simple question but I need to change the HID D2S Bulbs on my 2.2 I-DTEC EX GT Tourer and notice that the manual says this should only be done at a Dealer because they can still hold a High Voltage.

What precautions should I take to do this myself?

Will I be ok disconnecting the battery and then attempting this?

How easy is it to gain access?

Do you have to take the inner wing and Air Intake Duct off?

Thanks in advance, Rob

Hi Rob.

Not sure of access to the rear of your lights, but the dip beam on my 8th gen Accord was a PITA. Far easier to remove the bumper and light units to change them! there are guides on here how to do it. The first time I did mine as per the owners manual and took about two hours faffing about with the N/S air intake duct, arch liner and then no room for you hand. Bumper removal 30 mins each headlight 5 mins change bulb another 5 mins and no shredded hands. If you were to pop over to Honda Karma and search for My H1 headlight bulb change nightmare and HID Kit Install, they may help.

As for changing a HID bulb is just the same as a normal Halogen but with different connectors, don't touch the glass still applies. As for the high voltage it is only present when the lights are on and then is in the region of 20,000 volts at start-up dropping to about 80 when running. So as long as its been off for about 30 mins to cool down you should be fine, changed some on my previous Laguna without the use of the dealers without issue and far more room to work.

Many thanks John, I can't seem to find the guide to bumper or Headlight removal on here, can you point me in right direction?

I have seen a bumper removal on an Acura on you tube which looks quite straight forward, remove clips and screws etc but how easy do the lights come out, are there any concerns with alighnment when refitting?

Rob.

The guide in HID kit install shows most of the clips to remove the bumper, clips to remover the grill top cover, clips under the bumper, and the two screws at the bumper ends. The clips under the head lights (which are not mentioned) can be a PITA just be careful you can get a long screwdriver in to un-clip, its a big piece of black plastic bolted to the light units so if the clips break it can be replaced., once undone the bumper just comes off.

The head lights are held on with four bolts, one the rear lower side, one front lower-need an extension bar, two on the top-carefully pull back the trim by the front of the wing will reveal the hidden one. Refitting is the reverse I have no problems with alignment afterwards.

Well I tackled it and all went to plan, not too difficult, replaced bulb, put bumper back only to find still not working! I thought **** I've just wasted £40 on a new bulb but after some parts swapping to eliminate what was at fault, turns out that not only had the bulb blown the Ballast was knackered as well!

I managed to get one on fleabay for £70 and now all sorted, I can now get the bumper off in about 10 mins lol

Cheers for your help
