Hi guys ,
I have problem with my 09 Honda Accord Tourer. In the last 2 weeks i have 3 times problem when engine just shuts down during normal driving , then i stop and turn off key and turn on again , it start normally and i can drive for another few days or more without problem.
Each time when engine shuts down , I think that battery light and oil light are the lights that stays on when i pull the car over to turn off and turn on so i can continue. I might be wrong as i was in panic and need to bring car to safe stop especially on motorway so will observe more if this happens again.
I bought recently car (in May 2016) and i didnt have any problem with it so far. The car has done DPF by previous owner (I think 2 years ago ) , he didnt have any problem with it.

I went to local garage on diagnostic , here are the codes given:
airbag codes scan results :
61-10 open in drivers seat belt buckle swtich
62-10 Open in the front passengers seat belt buckle switch
Antilock brakes code scan
26-1 lateral acceleration sensor failure
61-1 baterry voltage failure
Body electric Code scan
B2375 Rain sensing mailfunction
B1031 Ultrasonic Sensor Mailfunction

Mechanic in the local garage told me to call the honda dealer to ask them if they seen similar cases as he cannot really tell from the codes and symptoms what is the problem and he didnt want to start changing ignition parts .
I called Honda Ireland and he was asking if i press acceleration to heavy when i am driving :) . Well i said yes , then he told me that it is some metering valve , that it should be checked and possible replaced, If there are some metal chips then i have bigger problem.
He said i can do valve change in local mechanic so it didnt sound they want me in and overcharge.
I was googling metering valve and couldnt find anything about it so i dont understand on what exactly honda guy was thinking, maybe someone can help .

anyone else had the same issues ?

Thanks in advance !

Have you an engine warning light on? Were you able to clear all the codes at your mechanics place. Honda Ireland should've suggested you go to one of their dealers for a diagnostic check no??

It actually sounds like a bad earth or possibly even loose clamps on the battery. Check all the obvious things first.

Might also be a faulty ecu if someone has been inside it to remap it.

There is no engine warning lights on. Honda Ireland said to me they have seen already this problem and ti is about metering valve. that i can talk with local mechanic and replace it . I dont even know what is metering valve , when i google it I cannot find anything. Is this known under different name ?

No idea what they mean by a metering valve sorry.

I too recommend you check and clean all the earthing points, also ensure your battery is healthy under load.

If you've noticed the car starts after wriggling the ignition key you could well have a ****y ignition switch ?

If you didn't pay Honda to diagnose your woes you shouldn't be too confident about their remote diagnosis.

Good luck :)

That link is for a Delphi application, not Bosch. I would have called that a fuel pressure regulator. Interesting to see its being referred to as something else.

Thanks guys for all suggestions! I will give Honda call again to get exact name of the part they were suggesting. You are right that it is the question if they are right as diagnose was only done over the phone.
To be honest I was little afraid to go straight to them as I know that car have DPF removed so didnt know if they can discover that and then make some fuss about it that is why I went to local mechanic.
I was wriggling ignition key but didnt notice that car is doing anything unexpected as that was first thought was ignition switch.
Will also contact the guys that removed DPF but job was done 3 years ago , and previous owner didnt have any problem with it , neither i did until 15 days ago so it is unlikely problem.

Yes I would agree, if you've had no issues with the ECU software in your ownership then it's likely to be a hardware failure. Do check the tightness and conductivity of the battery clamps, make sure they're clean and making a good connection. Also check all earthing points that you can see.

Hi Peter,
I have an 08 8th Generation same as you, I had the same problem but I think I know the problem and perhaps the solution.
Ignore all the error codes for the moment. If the car drives normally but then goes into shut down or limp home mode then the problem is elsewhere.

About two years ago the same thing happened to me. Got the codes scanned.. Low fuel pressure issue. I had let the fuel go low so I thought there might be dirt in the tank after filling from an near empty tank.
Changed the Fuel filter, checked for leaks etc. got a mechanic to check it over. After a while the problem stopped happening.

Now, problem went away for months, came back. .. then went away again.. so over a period of about 18 months this happened about 5 times. In between I had put petrol in a diesel tank.... not a good thing, but the car wasn't started so I got it cleaned, flushed, and a new diesel filter put it. Low fuel pressure issue came up afterwards so it can't be dirt, fuel filter or an obvious leak.

So now I was able to form a pattern of events.. I normally fill up at Topaz and there is no issue at present. However, the common factor in the issue that I filled up at different, reputable brand station.
After filling up there, the issue started again. I know many people use the same station without issue so I am not making an aspersions on their fuel. However, I have a suspicion that there is some issue with the diesel that is part of the root cause, It could be an issue with the capacity of the fuel filter as it's quite small; perhaps it's the viscosity of the diesel.

Try filling up at a Topaz station, drive the tank near dry, fill up again and see if the problem will go away. I'll be interested to hear if it does. I hope it's that simple. It may take more than one fill.

The other issues could be down to a battery is also on the way out.

a known issue i had with my previous mk7 accord petrol model was not closing the fuel filler cap fully.
You need to ensure it is turned several 'clicks'.
If not, car can go into 'limp' mode while driving down the motorway.
