Rang a couple of dealers to book a 125k service and the price was the best part of £100 difference. Seems they have a different list of jobs to do. Anyone got a job sheet for a 2.4 7th gen so I know which to choose.

Cheers Spud.

If you can find a dealer who will really do all that I would pay them but from past experiences most dealers are rubber stampers I don't trust anyone with my vehicle if i can't see with being done that includes dealers as 1 dealer did service and forgot rover fill with oil other dealers I used in past have failed to diagnose problems correctly in fact most times wrong diagnostic to expensive parts which who knows if they fit or not so sorry but my trust with most dealers is long lost if i must visit a dealer i require to view the vehicle while work is done even if it's from a window away from workshop as i know they allow customers on workshop

Also a decent garage can diagnose, stamp the book and do the vehicle in front of you, I only use garages from good garage scheme or motor ombudsman scheme

Actually getting round to getting it serviced and for £350 it doesn't seem a lot for your money, especially at 0.8 hrs. Honda say they want it 4 hrs ! and I don't think ever in it's life have the valve clearances been checked.

This is why a little home DIY goes a long way.

Most of those checks are done on the MOT for £50 or less.

You can change the cabin filter yourself - buy one for £10 on eBay - the handbook shows how and it takes less than 5 minutes.

That leaves the oil change, and if you can do your own, the oil and filter costs about £30.

Having said that, if Honda want it 4 hours, they'll be doing the full works - much more than what Autodata says.

The reason they want it 4 hours is because they don't know precisely what time they'll do it, a bit like get a washing-machine delivered.

Change the oil, wipe the oil filter, give it back. ;)

Maybe use it for a trip to Gregg's before giving it back (at high speed, if it's a performance car).

There was a great clip on Civinfo showing how Honda technicians discussed and treated a customer's CTR, not realising that he'd left his dash cam running in permanently on mode. Most worrying was the way it was hammered over a speed hump...

Yeah, you hear the horror stories.

Why I service my own, or on a very rare occasion it gets worked on by someone I trust implicitly.

Having worked at a local dealer I can tell you the "pdi" and road tests were more like a rallycourse. There were records set in certain models around notorious bends etc.

Haha. For a year I put the PDI mileage on motorcycles for a dealer, and can relate to this.
We exported a lot of bikes to Germany with 9 miles on the clock and worn hero blobs on the footpegs.

I disagree most dealers are rubber stampers and that's me being polite I do another name for them but won't mention here

That's what dealers do

Most dealers are a waste of time just there to rip you off

Yes cause they have let me down all the time tried to rip me off many times they lie and overcharge don't get me started and also dont even let you view your car being serviced with no oil after service and few other issues don't trust dealers

Whilst working at Honda I had both my prelude and integra. No problem having the techs work on them because I could be in the workshop under the cars with them and the majority of them were work mates. It was lovely being able to get the parts off the shelf then bung the tech 50 sheets or so to change this/that.
Having said that, would never take a car in there as a regular customer having seen what goes on! Any oily bits I can't do on the drive since then have been done at my local Bosch centre who are frankly brilliant. Lots of little jobs not charged for and a skilled bunch of guys with a prompt, friendly service. You pays your money though!

OK now we've concluded that dealers are all scam artists, can anyone tell me which plugs the car uses and also if the valves are hydraulic which means they wouldn't need adjusting?

Note that in the image below it says that you should not adjust the gaps on Iridium plugs.

valves are NOT hydraulic

I had my car serviced today by Honda, having only recently bought it I wanted to add to the 11 dealer stamps already in the book just in case I decide not to keep it so i thought having another dealer stamp would make it easier to shift plus the car hadn't been serviced for 2 years as the previous owner used it as a second car and hadn't clocked up the mileage so decided not to get it serviced.
This was the 125k service so I initially called the dealer and asked for the price of the service and what exactly would be changed. I was quoted £222 over the phone and told that the oil, oil filter and cabin filter would be changed. I decided to book using their online form following which I received a call from the service department to confirm dates etc, I again told them I wanted a 125k service and was this time quoted £180.
So I duly dropped it off this morning at the very nice dealership, they even had my name and car reg on the service desk welcoming me!, I picked up the courtesy car I had prebooked which was a brand new Civic 1 litre turbo sports model, quite impressive for a 1 litre petrol (£24k new).
I dropped off the car at 9.30 and was told to collect at 4.30. Around 2.30 I received a call saying that the car was in need of rear discs and pads on both sides, now I already knew my car had a problem with the rear nearside as the pads are quite worn which is more than likely a sticky caliper as the other side has plenty of meat on it and I have the receipt showing they were changed not too long ago but they were telling me that both sides were worn to the point where metal on metal contact was being made and quoted me £290 to replace discs and pads on the rear. I told the chap that I suspected the caliper so putting new discs and pads on would lead to the same problem down the line and I'd end up replacing the parts again. He again repeated the metal on metal quote but said they'd leave them alone at my request, at no point did he offer to examine the caliper.
About half an hour later I received an email with a brief video of my car which I thought was a nice touch, the technician did a little walk around one side confirming tyre depths on all wheels then showing the worn pads on the nearside, he didn't show the offside though.
I picked up my car at 4.30ish and paid a total of £195, £180 for the service and £15 which I agreed to pay in the morning when picking up the courtesy car in order to reduce the excess on it from £1000 to £250.
I went to my car after paying which had been washed and vacuumed but they'd forgotten to stamp the book despite being told they'd stamped it when I asked at the service desk.
So in summary, I paid £180 to have my oil and filter changed plus a car wash and vac, on the plus side I saved £42 by them not changing the cabin filter, which I pulled out and vacuumed then put back in as it was pretty clean.
If I keep my car I very much doubt I will visit the dealership for a service again, I've already ordered genuine rear pads from johnsons honda on ebay for £40 and some red rubber grease for £1.87 which I hope will sort my caliper issue.

Did warn you about dealers you could have gone to a proper mechanics had service book stamped and caliper done within £180

Forgot to mention - the week my mother passed away, obviously had to take time off work. Left my recently purchased prelude with the Honda dealership for the cambelt, rear calipers and discs etc. Received a phone call from the poor young thing on reception nervously telling me one of the apprentices had performed the work and the car had rolled down the rather steep top car park into a brand new legend! He hadn't adjusted/fitted the handbrake properly.
Luckily the damage was minor but had to wait a couple of days for it to comeback from the body shop. The only upside to this was a lovely re-sprayed front bumper - stone chip free!
