Hey there,

Long time lurker here!!

So, my 54 Accord CL7 has been eating oil like nothing recently!! I done a bit of searching on here and come to the conclusion it seemed normal. however after investigating further this is what I found!!

Is it fixable by myself or a garage job?

Thanks (hopefully pics are working)

That doesn't look like a huge leak and is easy to fix. The rubber gasket there only has to stop oil flung from the camshaft. Clean the area and take it apart. If the rubber looks OK put it back together with a lick of silastic.

So... I took off the metal surrounding however the bolt sheered off!!

It does look like the the surrounding wasn't screwed down tight enough though hence the oil coming out. I can rest the metal surrounding on the rubber.

What do you suggest now? I'm not sure where this bolt goes etc

That makes things more complicated. The remainder of the stud needs to be extracted and replaced. It looks like you have enough of the stud left to file 2 sides so that a spanner fits on it, once you have removed the cover. You need to be extremely careful not to spill metal filings into the engine space, so if you are not confident you can do this yourself, you'll need a local mechanic. No need for a Honda specialist for this type of work, just go to your local, as this sort of stuff is fairly common.

This video outlines removal options.
