Plugged an accessory USB into the 12v socket. ***uming it was faulty (Chinese products) started smoking so turned engine off and removed it. The fuse under the bonnet (backup, according) has blown. Now the car almost struggles to start, radio sat nav etc not on. I understand about the radio etc. But what does it control that makes the car start rough?

Didn't have a spare fuse so for now I tried the 40 amp fuse from the vsa in the backup account slot and car starts smooth now. Until I get a spare fuse tomorrow would it be drivable without the fuse in vs a. When I turn the car over vsa light comes on and abs light comes on

Yeah, but the ABS system won't be working (which isn't great).

Couldn't you find another fuse to use that didn't affect something significant like the braking system?

Just checked.. Can use the rear defroster for now. Odd that it blew the bigger fuse under the bonnet and not the cigarette lighter one in the foot well. Any idea what the backup, ACC fuse does that would cause the car to start rough?

That's a better fuse to borrow.

I can't see why removing any of those fuses would affect the engine. Weird!
