Hello all,

My sisters accord a 2008, has the cracked manifold issue, we have phoned around looking a replacement, however any garage we have phoned dont have it in stock, who do you recommend to buy off, what is the average price of one of these/ we have tried local and also a few uk honda garages

I don't know if you can live without the car for the duration, or what the freight cost would be, but f6had's guy can weld it for a lot less than a new one...

Yes it's the cdti engine, is the welding successful? If it was I would be all in favour of it, what would the cost be for welding?

The later one part cast upgraded manifold was never fitted to the i-CTDi during production.

Re-welding the original two part manifold is widely reported to be a successful option.

What sort of job is it to take off the manifold, is it awkward or time consuming?

^ from what I've read it's awkward and can be difficult to get the nuts off.

I think that there's a thread ...somewhere

it's completely different on the i-DTEC anyway ?

All the ICTDI cars suffer with this, and none were fitted with the revised manifold at the factory. My mechanic is able to do them for £200 but it's an 8 hour job and he's not always available these days.

Personally I would speak to honda HQ and ask them to cover it as goodwill given that this is a manufacturing problem and a health and safety issue.

the OP is in the Republic of Ireland, the proposal is merely to send the manifold on its own, that 8 hours includes removal and refit ? so surely it's a lot less than 8 hours to weld only ?

Yes that's the whole job end to end

So if someone doesn't want to bring the car to you, but is prepared to send the manifold on its own, is that a job your mechanic would be prepared to do ?

If "yes" I presume that anyone who may want this service should send you a PM for a quote ?

Personally I think its mad to send a manifold to the UK to be welded.
You can buy a genuine kit from Honda for £350 which has all the bits you may need, not just gaskets but the flexi gasket in the exhaust etc.If thats too expensive then Ebay sellers sell spurious 1 piece manifolds with gaskets for £100 ish.
If you are stuck for time and want one here then there is a company in Cork that sell the manifolds for €105 or so.
I have no connection to them but saw them while looking at manifolds recently, (I have a cracked Manifold too on my 08).

Personally I have no real interest in these manifold issues as my car is a 2.4 petrol.

But have you got a link to this "genuine kit from Honda for £350" ?

I'm intrigued because the full manifold from Honda is itself £468 --> http://www.lingshondaparts.com/honda_car_parts_selection?block_01=17SEA701&block_02=E__3400&block_03=3248&block_05=hcr

Also, re "Ebay sellers sell spurious 1 piece manifolds with gaskets for £100 ish", if those prices are correct then "I think it's mad ...to be welded" applies universally.

I would agree, welding can be done by any decent garage. If you are competent enough to remove and refit then just have it welded locally or buy a replacement unit

Thanks for the replies, i agree, if its been welded i have a guy locally that will do it,
bounder, where did you see the kit for 350,

F6HAD, its worth a try, going through Honda HQ and see if they will cover as goodwill, however my previous experience with Honda Ireland is once the warranty time is out, its good luck.

Unlikely if i'll attempt removal myself, if it takes a garage nearly 8, it will probably take me longer, so will get a garage to do it

Thanks

If I had an i-CTDi with cracked/leaking manifold, for those replacement prices I just wouldn't see the point in removing the cracked manifold and getting it welded anywhere at all ;)

That's my take on it as well.
I have looked at a few cracked manifolds but to be honest the grief involved in removing it and rewelding it just isn't worth if the weld fails at any point in the future.
Far better to fit a one piece unit and forget about it, especially if the kit is genuine and has the different heatshield with 2 bolts, and all the other little bits that add up fast.
The flexi exhaust gasket and multi-layer steel gaskets aren't cheap and when you factor that all in the 350 looks like a reasonable deal if you intend keeping the car for a few more years.

Hi everyone, I had the cracked manifold problem but I read on one of the threads Honda stood the cost of a new one if you contacted them, wait for this! I took my 06 tourer with 180 on the clock to the local dealer, they understood warranty had been extended to seven years only on this, but gave me the number for Honda customer service anyway. I rang them and they emailed me to take it to main dealer for diagnostic with an email telling dealer to call them with their prognosis. Sure enough cracked Manifold but Honda will supply new manifold, gasket and turbo gasket as a good will gesture. The car has full main dealer service which I think counted. The dealer as been upfront and said three hour job but says it will possibly run into more as even they shear bolts so there is no way I am going to attempt it still may end up costing 4 to 5 hundred. Whilst there could be an argument shouldn't be fitting faulty manifolds that could fatally gas you but fair do's pretty decent on a 11 year old car. Well done Honda.
