Hi guys

Just seeing if any of you know if it's possible to get a updated Honda sat nav disc from anywhere other than Honda?

Thanks in advance

You might get (a genuine) one on eBay that's newer than your existing one, but may not be the most recent.

As far as I know there's more to it than just getting the newest release -you need the right version for your Nav. There are threads on here somewhere...

There have been stories of non-genuine discs giving the drive a hard time meaning you may end up having to replace / repair that as well as getting a new map disc. I seem to remember reading that going back to an older version if you don't like what you've bought isn't straight forward either.

This explains the difference between a disc "stamped" and issued direct, and a disc that was copied from another disc --> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_disc_recording_technologies#Longevity

Where a DVD player continually uses a copy-disc (satnav is a prime example), the dyes on the copy-disc begin to deteriorate, and the DVD player has to keep turning up the laser power until eventually the laser at at max power all the time. As a result, the laser eventually burns out. A very large number of threads over the years where this has happened.

As said above, the OEM discs do come up on ebay, and you also need the correct version number (IIRC it's v2.xx for pre-facelift 7th gen, v3.xx for facelift, or something like that).

For the price of an OEM disc from Honda, you can get a better up-to-date satnav from Halfords or Maplin LOL

you can get only west if you want

if you use a good brand of cd it shouldn't be an issue as technically all genuine ones are copies right ? :p

No, "Retail recordable/writable optical media contain dyes in/on the optical media to record data, whereas factory-manufactured optical media use physical "pits" created by plastic molds/casts. " --> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_disc_recording_technologies#Longevity

For a DVD that is in continual use (which the satnav is, when turned on) the laser will wear out the dye. Higher quality dye will last longer, but obviously not as long as a factory produced mold/cast. As the dye wears out, the DVD reader has to turn up the power on the laser until it is at full power all the time, and then the laser burns out. That will eventually happen if you get any copy, the fact that the stanav in my car is still working (***embled into the car in 2003 according to the VIN) , is down to the fact that it's never had a copy-disc in there.
