morning guys I was driving home yesterday just before I got to my house the oil light came on my 04 accord diesel came on and I lost some power it did not go in to limp mode and every time the turbo tries to kick in it gives a little puff and whistle then no turbo. I checked the oil and its just above the min mark the car will tick over a little noisy but its done 176k so I expect it to be noisy is it worth me doing an oil and filter change to see if that turns the light off ? any ideas what could be wrong with it would be a great help

The oil preasure sensor is located between the oil pump and the oil filter so change of it it will make no difference.
As first you have to remove the sensor and measure the actual preasure in the oil port.
If you are lucky the sensor is fault.
If you are not lucky the oil pump is fault

so long and short is changing the oil and filter won't help its either pressure switch or oil pump at fault ?

It's not uncommon for the oil pump/balancer chain to snap, obviously then there is no oil pressure. Unfortunately it's quite a big job to replace the chain.

I guess it could sometimes be just the switch that causes the warning light to come on, but this time you are also reporting other problems consistent with the loss of oil pressure.

I can't believe you kept running it with the oil pressure warning light on. Sorry, but if this really is a complete loss of oil pressure then I would expect serious damage to have already occured.

It was more of a case I was 3 doors away from my drive when the light came on so it was easier to just get it home as a rule I wouldn't run a car with the pressure light on .

after more investigation today for what ever reason I lost pressure it seems to have starved the turbo of oil and blown the turbo as well I'm ***uming it has happened in that order or could the turbo have caused the pressure to go ?

either way I'm now looking for a complete car to break and swop engines over

Bummer. Almost certainly the loss of oil pressure caused the turbo bearing to fail.

Good luck in finding a decent engine. Doesn't have to be an Accord donor, other i-CTDi engines will fit, but may need certain ancillaries swapping over (probably best to avoid ones that need the turbo swapping over, such as one from a Civic). 2006 onwards engines have better timing chains and tensioners, but you'll need to fit your EGR valve at least.

Is it worth spending money on an old Accord though? I'd scrap mine rather than spend much on a car that's probably not worth much more than about £500!

my engine code is N22A I think its then a 1 would an engine with code N22A2 fit in my car this engine is from a 05 CRV

An N22A1 would be a straight fit, including most ancilliaries. While an N22A2 engine block is the same (and has been fitted in a 7th gen Accord by member Goodluckmonkey) the ancilliaries, including the turbo, are not suitable without at least some modification, pretty much as I said before. I also suggested a 2006-onwards engine, because of improvements to the timing chains (and, I think, the clutch and DMF).

I recommend that you send a PM to member Goodluckmonkey for full details of what will and won't need to be changed. He's a pretty helpful guy!

iv managed to get a low millage engine and turbo for cheap of a mate so Its not going to cost a lot to repair thank god does anyone know if the motor will come out the top or does it need dropping out the bottom ?
