Hi

I just got my aux belt replaced with revised version and oil filter changed and now car wont crank/turn when hot.
No engine check light, I just turn key and nothing happens except sat nav lights go out.
I have to wait for 10-15 minutes to start it up.
When cold it starts without problem.

Guys at garage told me to replace starter motor.

Any ideas?

If it was OK before the revised (shorter?) aux belt was fitted then obviously something was damaged (or left loose) during the work.

Have you checked the battery connections?

Could be a duff battery but not starting when hot does sound like the common pressure relief valve.
Having said that, with the issues appearing right after an aux belt and filter change it is really odd.

I can imagine it would be the starter motor, but the symptom of failing to start when engine is already warmed up and hot does sound like the famous relief valve issue.

As jon-g says, check battery connections and check the voltage too, worth checking if the battery is being charged by placing a multimeter across the battery terminals on volts. Its should read 14v

If only happening when engine is warm then I would say it's the fuel pressure relief valve.

Did you use genuine parts?

What Oil did you use?

Check battery and alternator.

The sat nav dying when the starter is operated is a good indication that the vehicle voltage is wilting away under the heavy load of the starter... usually this would be caused by a bad connection, in this case one that is more apparent when hot. Could be battery connections (especially if the battery has been recently disconnected), could be the other ends of the battery leads, could be an earth strap (maybe disturbed when the aux belt was replaced?) or could even be an internal battery fault. Using a voltmeter should soon prove this issue.

Apologies I misread the post, and agreed it can't be Pressure relief valve if the engine isn't cranking. I would say starter motor or actually the crank sensor itself. We had an almost identical issue on an Accord in the family and we did the starter motor.. but it turned out to be the crank sensor.

This may be relevant? the other evening my Mrs was out with her Jazz, she stopped to drop her mate off and being in a dark street and near a corner she switched off and put the "hazards" on, when she went to restart no go, all the dash lights were on but the starter would not crank, I was called and sussed the battery but the lights were strong and did not dim when turning the key, one thing that "malfunctioned" was the radio switched off, tried a few times but no go, got to the point of calling "Green Flag" but then had a brain wave, I removed the key from the ignition, waited a couple of minutes, disconnected the jump leads, then went through the start up ritual and vOILA IT STARTED!! maybe the immobiliser was having a night off? starts first time any time since.

To be honest Jon, I didn't diagnose it. My kid brother has been running the car and I told him to do the starter motor.. he did it and said it was still having an issue, but he used one of my mechanic mates who had a spare accord in the workshop and they swapped a few parts till they think they pinpointed it.

I actually don't think it was his CPS but probably a bad Earth or connection somewhere but he's convinced it solved it. It's been fine ever since so whatever they did it solved it.

Just an short update.

It seems that starter motor collected some rust inside (car was standing for two weeks in rainy weather).
I took it to garage, they cleaned it and now it works flawlessly.
