Long time lurker but only post when I have a problem, which isn't very often :)

Parked on a moderate hill last week, put handbrake on (not all the way, but firmly on), left it in neutral.

Came back to find the car had rolled forwards 2 meters and was only a meter away from a BMW 6 series

Parked somewhere flat overnight

The next day I got into the car (also on a flat) and could hear a creaking noise towards the rear of the car when I sat down.

This week, I can't replicate the problem at all. Took it to National Tyres and they couldn't find a problem at all

Has this happened before to anyone? Bizarre that it happened once and not happening again

Tourer or saloon? They have very different handbrake arrangements!

If it was a saloon, I suggest that maybe you didn't pull the handbrake on as tightly as usual and then, as the rear disks cooled and shrunk, the rear pads lost their grip. Can't explain this happening on a tourer though.

Best putting it in reverse when parking on a downhill slope & if it's steep point the front wheels in towards the kerb as well.

Saloon, I won't ever buy an estate lol

So your theory is that this could happen if the brakes were used for an extended period prior to parking, but if I was using the brakes less then the problem wouldn't happen?

I can buy this as I was in a very hilly town, braking a lot, prior to the rolling down hill incident, and this week I have only done a few short trips, hardly using the brakes.

***uming the front of the car is facing down the hill :)

After that little incident I will be more careful. Full application of hand brake and leave in gear on hills, wheels against kerb if appropriate

And avoid parking in front of anything expensive...
