Unfortunately, my 2.2 accord tourer has been sat unused for too long so needed a jump start.
Here comes the friendly neighbour and reverse connects the leads - a few sparks and then silence.
No lights on dash when leads connected the right way. Totally dead.
Any immediate thoughts please?
Thanks

Look at the 100A fuse under hood, it should be burnt by now.

Probably buckled the battery plates and you would also need to check fuses.

It appears that the 100A fuse is gone - thanks for the tip.
Have spent at least 40 mins online and on the phone trying to get a replacement.
Wasn't able to find any, it's incredible.
Amazon.com can get me one over from the US for £24 within a week :D
Anyone knows where I can get it from in the UK? (pls do not suggest eurocarparts....)

THANKS

Cmon, junkyards are full of these accords, get used one from dismantlers

Sure they are - for £30!

I don't see how connecting the batteries together with jump leads could blow any fuse... the jump leads surely went onto the battery terminals, so no excess current would have passed through the main fuse!

How can scissors in your wall outlet burn your house down in no time, it is called shortcut. I ***ume the other car was running while trying to jump start.

No, sorry for being unclear.
Neighbour had a charged battery for his van.

It does not change much, but it was shotcut anyways, so you are lucky if only that fuse is burnt. I would check all fuses under hood as well as in drivers footwel.

Ah, oops!

Yes, I can see how that would blow the main fuse, probably via the alternator. Hopefully it is just the fuse and the alternator has survived. Other things might also be damaged, but should be cheap to replace?

I'm surprised that the main fuse is so expensive from vehicle dismantlers. As others have said I would cautiously short it out (with jump leads) to prove that it needs replacement, then leave it shorted until a cheap replacement is found. This is obviously a risk for you to judge for yourself.

To be honest 100a is main fuse no damage will be done, this is a dual fuse 100a / 70a that's why expensive personally I would only bypass to test and then replace.

Thank you all for replies and suggestions.
The problem is now sorted.
Car starts OK and it appears there are no other issues.

I am also happy for my neighbour... he only had to pay £17 for the fuse at the local Honda dealer

Just repay the favour one day and wash his car with fairy and a Brillo pad

Favour repaid.... the easier way.
Took his van to the garage and poured 1lb of sugar in the tank, then fill it up
