Please forgive me digging up this previously hashed over issue.

Are there any updates or developments regarding trying to get the SatNav/CD Changer combos to accept an AUX cable kit or similar? I have only the modest ambition to connect my lowly iPod shuffle.

Any ideas, alternatives or pointers greatly received!

There are some options. There's a funny multi pin connection on the back of the unit, that's originally intended for additional/external CD/Tape units. There are a couple of manufactures who make interfaces that you can plug an aux or iPod into and they plug into this input on the back of the unit. I've had one for ages. It's fine. Look up either XCar Link or Grom Audio. The main issue is fitting can be a bit of a faff as you have to remove the gear knob surround, undo a load of screws and bolts, slide a spatula down the side father centre console and tease the centre console out sufficiently to get at the socket on the back.

Update: Grom Audio responded, apparently they have four options that are fully compatible ....

" I can confirm that any of the following four kits:

Will be fully compatible with your Accord, we use the "external" CD changer port (present on all radios including sat nav versions) meaning you can retain the use of the internal CD changer. Only if you have separate CD changer in the glove box for example would one of these kits replace it.

If you just wanted a simple kit to connect o the headphone socket of the shuffle then I would suggest the AUX1 kit, however the other kits are more advanced allowing to to change tracks on an iPod or phone with the Honda stereo/steering wheel button - needs more than a shuffle.

If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to ask. "

Many thanks indeed first the info!

Might want to report back to Grom that the above link gets blocked by my companies firewall as it reports the link is trying to download malicious software to my PC !

The civinfo link which appears to be the definitive guide on how to take the dash apart appears to be dead ( well it wont open for me anyway )
Does anyone have a link to another good walk-through with pictures - i need to access the back of both the DVD player to plug in a reverse camera cable ( does the DVD player unscrew and pull forward ? ) and the back of the Nav head unit to plug in an IPod adapter ( is this done by removing the top vents/LCD panel and going in from the top so you dont have to physically remove the head unit? )

I could just do with some pics showing where the screws and clips are so i dont damage or break anything getting it apart.

Cheers

A word of warning... the UK site is operated by a company based up near Derby, and often go by the name carputer or mannocks.

They ARE NOT TO BE TRUSTED,

If you do buy the grom kit, order direct from the company in the US, or through one of the partners in other parts of Europe... Carputer are a bunch of lying, deceitful and untrustworthy C**TS. Grom themselves were very helpful and even sent me a replacement lead for my accord from California whilst the UK reseller was trying to gouge me for loads more money for the replacement parts when the original ones were faulty.

In the end I had to resort to making a claim back through paypal and returning the entire kit simply because they wanted me to pay them to replace faulty parts when I'd only had the kit a few months.

I would never, ever buy anything from that bunch of cowboys.

As I said.. Grom themselves are great, and I had many discussions with them about my problems, which ended up with them sending a replacement part out from the USA 5000 miles away when Mannocks were 40-50 miles away and wanted me to pay them for replacements. Don't support companies that try to rip you off. I even signed onto groms beta test program and gave them feedback about how to improve the software for diesels.. specifically the way the diesel requires a pause between insert key and turning the engine on for the glow plugs to warm... Their system connected the bluetooth immediately, which then lost the BT connection when you started the car... as the grom unit resets along with the car system... whilst the phone is disconnecting from the unit, it cannot receive the signal to reconnect... So doesn't... and you then have to manually connect the BT.

All of that could easily be resolved by simply inserting a delay in to the software, so that BT devices don't connect for say 20 seconds after it starts up. Which is about the time it takes to get in the car, put the key in the ignition, start the engine and do up your seatbelt... Hey presto, problem solved.

But as I had to send mine back because, I wasn't about to have it replaced by those con merchants at mannocks/carputer and got a refund instead... I just lived without BT as I'd tried a few BT transmitters, but quality was poor... and my replacement car has BT installed now... and even if that fails, I'd get a Parrot 9200i kit installed rather than a grom... simply because of that bunch of arsehats.
