Thinking about getting tints on the rear and passenger windows of the car, what do you guys think I should go for 20% 17% or 7% tint or should I just not do it?

Forgot to say that the car is also black pearl.

Will post before and after pics if I get it done.

Fahad has tints on my car....

im hoping to do this next year as since i have a child on the way i want to make sure it rides in style and it wont get too hot from the sun etc.

im planning on having 70% on the 2 front windows then 35% maybe 30% on the rears.
after seeing fahads car it looks great and i think it looks great on the black without looking chav.

BTW the % is the amount of light the tint lets through so 7% is nearly limo. (5% is limo btw)

hopefully fahad will come in to show us with a pic of his car :(

Just check in the members gallery mate, plenty of pics. 30% on the rear is plenty dark enough really. If you have a dark interior, consider a lighter shade.

Andy don't forget legislation governs how much light should be allowed the windscreen must allow at least 75% light the two front side windows 70%. Police and Vosa use light meters and you can be forced to change them or face a fine and your vehcile impounded. So 30% tint on the front is max and 25 on the windscreen the rears are not affected.

Get it done professionally mate, don't bother with self diy kits unless you have patience and a 100% dust free garage... I'm sure Fahad will tell you the same LOL

Too right Jav!

alot of laces offer lifetime guarantee to,so look out for them...

Yeah am getting it done professionally, am tempted to get it on the front side windows to, might be a silly question but how does it affect driving in the dark is it much different?

It should look quite good once done as with the car been black as well...

My wife is having our first baby tomorrow so it will be a week or 2 away at least, ideally I would of done it a few weeks back but with prepping everything for the baby not had chance, still once I get it done it will protect her.

Andy you can not legally add tints to the front windows they normally come out the factory with maximun tint on already, Having said that I had a 15% put on the fronf of our monaro. When added up with the factory tint I get some thing like 65% comming through.

Mate that made me chuckle :D

Good luck in thinking you can do anything you want after your baby is born

All the best for tomorrow mate, hope it all goes well - it's a wonderful time, enjoy it.

Fahad, so you mean I cant go out when I want anymore and mess around with the car when I want?

My better half has promised I can have them now as I sold the idea as a 2 in one deal, it would help protect the baby and its my birthday in 2 weeks so its an easy present as all she needs to do is ring the place and they will come and fit for me....

Not long to go now later today and she will be here fingers crossed.

Andy, we're all waiting for the good news.

Back on topic though, personally I would avoid those mobile tinters. No matter how skilled the fitter is - the tints will become contaminated with dust upon installation and even if you can't tell immediately, you will notice the little specs every time you clean the car.

Just like you wouldn't paint a car in the open air without dust retraction, you shouldn't be tinting cars outside...

I had mine done to 30% and very pleased with them.

Not sure where abouts you live but I got mine done at custom tints in Gateshead, very good job and great price

I think all being well, if he's just become a dad...well we can't expect to hear back until maybe 2028 B)

Am back! first chance I have had 5 mins to myself since having baby, it feels like 2028 B)

Have took your advice and am going to get it done at a specialist location as I want it done properly.

Hope it all went well mate (the baby delivery that is) and congrats <_<

Had baby girl, she is a cutie just like her mam!

All went well apart from the spinal block they had to try 5 times to get it in. (baby was breech).

Before I went to hospital to pick them up I gave the accord a good clean and polish, well I couldnt pick them up in a dirty car could I? :)

Sounds traumatic mate, but glad it was all well in the end :D

How do all,

I was going to get the windows tinted professionally, but after seeing some chav charriots (one litre Corsas!) around I decided against it.
I went for the other option, the Genuine Honda blinds. I thought that if I didn't like them I could sell them on!?
They were a bit fidly to fit the brackets, but all could be done at your local dealer. Once the brackets were in the blinds can be put in or taken out in minutes. They also allow you to wind down the rear windows with the blind still in place.
I have to say they are really good quality, look really great and give you more flexibility than having your windows tinted.

Hope it helps,

Bye for now,

Ade

Holy thread resurrection batman!!

Only option I didn't get on mine that I wanted was tints. Gonna look for a place to get them done next year.

Husky have you had this done yet? I got mine done opposite the Harvester on Eastern Road. Automotive Tinting. Cost me £180 and they did a quality job :)

Really? I'd heard bad things about them from a couple of other forums! I've used South Coast Tints in Southampton twice and they've done an awesome job, but they were a bit more expensive than most.

If your still looking in to tints... let me know as i want my car done.
Maybe whoever we chose could give us a discount for 2 cars ?

Trev I'm coming to the meet in April so if you haven't had it done you can have a look at the job they did on my car (unless you wanted to meet up beforehand as we are quite local). I hear different things about different experiences / opinions on different companies all the time. I was recommended these guys by three different people and it paid off.

By the way, wherever you get the tinting done I do recommend you don't down your windows for a couple of weeks....or use your rear window heater ;)

Just found this on the south coast tints website..

2010

South Coast Tints is always up against companies that use very cheap products that fade and scratch. Along with very low standards of perfection. Often South Coast Tints are proud to help customers with issues experienced by using other, let’s say 'less experienced' companies.

South Coast tints will never ever install any level of shaded films to the front windows from the time the law changed back in 2004. This has been a constant daily struggle educating customers after they have been told by other window tinters that it is ok to put a 30% shade on front windows.

Yeah no companies should tint the fronts, unless it's a clear film (safety film for example). Might get a quote from them for the Accord.

I had a look earlier and knowing that about 10 or 12 years ago it was £250 ... so 200 quid for the rear or 290 for front security film included... is a ****** good price in my mind...

Not sure if it helps, but I know a very good guy near Rugby (just north actually) who does a very decent job. He is not mobile, you have to go to him. I am not sure if the rules allow me to give his details, so I won't. To answer an earlier question, when inside (looking out) it's actually not too bad. As far as the back windscreen goes at night time, it doesn't make it as tricky as you might think to see what's coming up behind you. In fact, it kinda acts like an anti glare of sorts - it actually helps a little.
