I want to swap to a set of winter wheels & tyres. I've got a replacement set of Accord wheels with TPMS valves that came off another car.

Anyone know how the TPMS valves work with the car ie can I just swap out my old wheels for the new ones and the valves sort themselves out or do I need to program them to the car in some way?

Silly question but I'm presuming your car came with TPMS On the original wheels?

If so you could try changing the wheels over inflating til desired pressures then recalibrating the tpms in the car menu.

If your car doesn't have tpms and you're wanting to use the new wheels to try and program them in from scratch, I don't think that'd work. You can get lots of Aftermarket tpms systems though.

Yes Daz, the car came with TPMS. Anyone got any ideas how to recalibrate it in the car menu (2015 tourer)?
I guess you need to program in the codes from the new valves and set their positions but how?

Most tyre dealers are able to program the TPMS system, they were able to sort mine out when i needed two new valves on a previous car.

I spoke to a technician at Honda today. They said the Accord doesn't auto-learn the codes so I would have to take it in for re-coding each time I swapped from summer to winter wheels and vice-versa for which they would charge an hour's labour each time.
Out of interest,he also said it is fine to use normal valves, although you will always get a warning message on the dash. From a legal point of view he said modern cars need a TPMS system installed but it doesn't have to be working i.e. if you had normal valves on a TPMS-equipped car it wouldn't be an MOT failure.
To buy TPMS valves from Honda would cost £127. Each.
So to do things properly from scratch would cost a set of wheels and tyres, £500 for TPMS valves and £70 labour costs twice a year!
I know tyre fitters would probably code your valves for less than Honda and I've seen a place that will clone a new set of valves to match your old ones so if anyone else is thinking of getting a 2nd set of wheels it might be something to consider.

As an alternative you could use some ebay TPMS on the winter wheels. My Accord does not have TPMS so I installed a set from ebay - they work fine

An MOT requirement if the manufacture installed TPMS system is fitted it must be working.
