Hello

When buying new tyres for my 2008 Honda Accord, which side wall numbers may I change?

My old tyres have the numbers "225/50R 17 98W" on them (Goodyear's Efficiency Grip)

==> Must the first bit "225/50R 17" all stay exactly the same?

What about the last bit "98W" ?
Would V Z W Y all be okay letters?
What about the Load Index - what must that be?

Cheers

J

225/50/17 is the tyre size you'll want to keep. All those speed ratings will be fine (v z w y) and 98 is the weight load. Which should stay at 98.

If you're searching for tyres online than just enter for any weight and load and with the correct size (225/50/17) and you'll find most if not all will match or exceed the speed/load requirements

What are you looking to change?

The 225 is the width of the tyre in mm.

The 50 is the height of the tyre from rim to outside and is expressed as a % of the width. i.e. for the 225/50 the profile is 50% of 225 = 112mm

17 is the diameter of your wheel in inches.

If your going to change the profile then you need to be aware that it will change the rolling radius and so may affect the accuracy of your speedo.
