Accord mk7 ctdi - can't justify selling it

Thinking of changing to something smaller and faster...

 

...But it's hard to justify replacing my Accord. It just works. It's a great all-rounder, no problems with short journeys, perfect on long journeys.

Great on fuel.

Comfortable.

Has the gadgets you need. (Folding mirrors is an option on German cars - wtf?)

Still looks modern.

 

I do like the new Civic Type-R, but it's nearly the size of the Accord!

I'd still be happily driving my 2008 7th Gen tourer but a young fella not paying attention rear ended me and wrote it off, at 165k it still purred no chain noises original clutch. No DPF like my CW3 to worry about.

Great cars if serviced correctly, I used Valvoline 5w30 C3 in mine @6k intervals rather than the stupid 12.5k that Honda UK recommend.

Funnily enough the manual on both 7th and 8th recommend 6250 intervals for the ICTDI and the IDTEC.

I'm the same, I've taken the odd spin in an 8th gen, and while I felt it was a bit more comfortable, it wasn't all that better to justify the extra expense and then the 2.0l petrol is a little lacking in character compared to my k20z. I'd ideally like to see the 1.5t in the new Civic Saloon, it is basically the size of an Accord, alebit not quite finished as well, cheaper feeling plastics etc.

 

 

 

So to summarise, while there's been plenty of cars launched since the 7th gen, there has not been one that does much better with the exception fuel economy maybe?? and absolutely no one could tempt into a dieseasel German saloon!!

 

I have been looking at maybe getting into a 3 series 330 but they're hens teeth over here!!

Interestingly I was helping my younger cousin look at cars this weekend, and he was looking at the typical German marques.

I suggested looking at the 8th gen and to my surprise we were finding Type S models at around the £3k price mark. They’ve really come down in price and represent amazing value for money!

A year on and I'm sill running the Accord.

 

If I do change, my shortlist:

 

BMW 330d (previous mark)

BMW 320i (latest mark)

Golf GTI

Civic 1.5 

Merc A Class 250

Audi A3 190bhp

 

My pref would probably be the GTi.

Civic is the best value. Lots of toys.

I see a lot of americans complain about the oil dilution caused by DI in the 1.5 civic engine, but with the service intervals most i-ctdi owners are used to I don't think you could go wrong with the civic tbh
