Accord EX
My trusty old 54 plate (2005) Accord Tourer EX is starting to get a little long in the tooth. She's served me well over the last couple of years and will continue to serve a new owner for many to come. But I wanted something newer, something that would give me a little extra MPG's now that I no longer 'need' all that extra space in the back.

So I picked this up for 2k last week. Currently having a few little jobs done before putting it on the road by the 1st Nov.

Full Honda service history, will be serviced by me every 6-8k from now on... I only average 5-6k a year anyway.

I've fixed the flickering top LCD, fixed the interior lights and swapped over all interior bulbs to LED's along with the boot light.

She'll be given a full service this week, and then off to the body shop for a couple of small jobs... lower rear drivers door has a small rust patch that requires attention, the boot lid has been scratched by some one with rings closing it and scuffing the paint repeatedly... so I thought... ya know what it's missing... a rear spoiler. So I picked one up with a brake light and will get that fitted at the same time.

Wheels are in decent shape, but over the coming months I'll be getting them all powder coated anthracite to better match the paintwork... and as I replace parts, I'll be upgrading them... so expect slotted discs and ebc red pads, and when I do the shocks, I'll be fitting some eibac springs.

The only other thing I have to do, I am awaiting the part for... The BT system actually works... which was a bonus, but the mic had failed. A replacement is on it's way to me at the moment.

It's got a full set of mats in excellent condition... they obviously replaced the drivers mat at some point because there's a spare one with the little hole in it from the heel of a shoe...

New wiper blades will be fitted, not because they're needed but because the ones on the car right now look tatty. I may also relocate the washer jets as I did on the tourer over 3yrs ago, to sit on the wiper arms. That proved to be a very good mod that works perfectly to this day.

Will update with pics as I go.

I see all the English words, but configured in that sequence I cannot form it into something my brain is prepared to understand! :D

I love my tourer... but I bought it partly because I needed room for a wheelchair and my old saloon made for a very tight squeeze when you add in luggage and so forth. Since my dad passed away, the extra space whilst lovely to have... isn't a requirement now.

I did very nearly buy another... more than once. But they turned out to have a few issues that could have cost £500+ to repair and the price of the car was too high. In the end this one came along, it was 15 miles down the road and didn't have those ugly stock wheels on them.

Sorry for your loss, it looks like a nice motor, deffo needs the wheel refurb that you're imo.

I've had a much closer look at the wheels... they've got a diamond cut face to the spokes.... which I really hate. So I'll definitely be getting them powder coated... It's just a question of how dark I want to go. I'll see what colour options they offer without going to extra expense... If it means keeping them stock honda silver... then so be it.

As for the Honda centre caps... they're chrome from the look of it, but badly worn and the logo even more so. So I'll either get some new ones, or paint them myself and get some vinyl stickers.

Another update... although the BT system appear to work, after a closer look, it wasn't the mic that had failed. So I did the bake repair on the module and whilst it's working... I can't get the voice control to accept certain commands, so I'm unable to do the phone setup because it keeps responding with 'fan speed up'.

It'll turn the audio on and so forth, and it will raise the temp, and I can tell it to set temp to 20 degrees and so forth... But can't get it to change disc or skip tracks.

So for now, I'll see if the BT module drains the battery over the next few days and if it does, I'll unplug and consider the whole BT& voice control defunct and fit a parrot kit.

Bluetooth module working, still monitoring to check for battery drain.. Hard to do when the car is idle and alarmed for 2 weeks... which will drain the battery too. But given that it dodn't drain it within the first 5 days which most people say it does. I'm saying it's functional for now.

Picked up a replacement door for the rear driver side... The rust was a little worse than I thought, and to get it re-skinned and painted was going to cost £350... Whilst a replacement door in excellent condition cost me £70, I also picked up the interior trim around the handbrake as the flap to the cupholder was broken on mine... That was £10.

All of the rear bulbs and interior bulbs have been replaced with LED's, next week I will be replacing all of the fronts with Osram nightbreaker H1's for the dipped/main and LED's for the sides and indicators. Fogs are being replaced with H11 LED's too.

Engine is being serviced, EGR and air mass sensors to be cleaned, air and pollen filters changed, and then off tot he garage for an oil & filter change as well as a brake fluid flush.

Bootlid is being given a going over with a DA polisher and proper compounds to get rid of the scratches... it doesn't appear to need a respray, as the scratches are not through the lacquer. So the only paintwork that does need doing, is painting the new spoiler and having that fitted... From a quote of £710 down to less than £250... I'll call that a good result.

Loads more work done this week.

Door swap, it was easier to pick up another door in the same colour than repair the patch of rust on the bottom... £70 vs £350. :) Colour match is good, but not perfect... however there's more than enough lacquer on the car to allow for a decent cutting and mopping to remove the slight fade difference in the lacquer.

Bootlid polished, and roughly 80& of scratches removed... Another go may get the rest.

Headlights refurbished, all new bulbs fitted Osram nightbreaker H1's all round, LED H11's in the fogs and ultra white 501's for the sides. I was going to replace the indicator ones too, but the ones I bought are canbus rated but don't have the load resistor built in... My fault for not double checking.

Dashcam hardwire kit fitted and routed up around the windscreen, so it can sit nicely behind the mirror.

EGR valve, cleaned... Looked like it hadn't been done... EVER, thick gunk build up removed with EGR cleaner and now you can see the metal again.
Throttle body cleaned, can now see metal again.
Air sensors cleaned
Air & Pollen filters changed.

Pics from the work we did last Thursday.

Headlights after wet sanding with 2000 & 2500 paper, then polishing with a DA and 2 types of meguiars first/second stage compounds. The door swap, and you can see just how bad the EGR valve was... the throttle body wasn't as bad, but still pretty gunky... and the air sensor... well, it's supposed to be orange and was black and lumpy with gunk. Then there's the old and new pollen filters before being fitted... It looks like it's not been done in years.

Worth blanking that egr, it’s most likely leaking gasses into the intake looking at that build up.

I might look into that later, not had any problems with my 05 EX Tourer, cleaned the EGR and then did it again 12-18 months later and the build up wasn't much at all... I think this one has simply never been cleaned in 10yrs.

Even though it's got a full Honda service history, I think it's been a little neglected. Which is why I'm doing everything before putting it back on the road. She's booked in for an oil change and brake flush next week, and will do the clutch and gearbox change shortly too.
