Hi

Wondering if we had any plumbers on here who could help advise me on an issue I’m having.

Seem to be suffering from what is known as ‘water hammering’ when closing taps upstairs in the house. Never had this before and recently started.

Any ideas on fix/investigation?

I had this recently and discovered it was due to the in house stop tap under the sink not being fully open, effectively lowering the water pressure.
Could anything recent have caused a drop in your water pressure?
Try closing the stop tap, emptying the system then fully re-opening it.

Will try that, thanks for the advice

Water hammer is a shock wave sent through the pipes by taps or valves opening or shutting quickly but varying mains water pressure can cause it too. You can fit a device called shock arrestor close to the source as well as a pressure reducing valve (PRV) after the mains stop **** to stabilise pressure. Sometimes it's caused by worn ball valves or faucet washers or even mineral build up on gate valves but if you're sure it's the upstairs taps make sure the surrounding pipe work is well secured first if at all possible, certainly worth draining down your system and seeing if that helps.

Can also be caused by pipes not being secured properly, especially long lengths in the loft area.
