brake pad retainer clips?

i have a 2004 tourer 2.0 petrol with the 15" wheels. i have just replaced the front discs and pads but noticed there was no pad retainer clips present (the ones that fit into the upper and lower caliper bracket that that the pads slide on towards the disc). the anti rattle wires are present but no other metal clips of any sort. i did notice though that the inner pad has 3 metal prongs on the back which is inserted into the piston cup, does this alleviate the need for any other clips?
