1.8, 6th gen Accord
My 6th gen Accord has a leaking front shock absorber, which I will replace in a near future.
I have been looking at what brands are available for this model, and have narrowed it to KYB, SACHS and BILSTEIN.

These are all about the same price (70/80 € each).
Honda ones are about double the price.... Does they worth the extra money?!?

Don't know why, but I am leaning towards the KYB.

What are your opinions about the KYB shocks? Do you recommend any other brand?
 
Certain OEM parts are just really expensive, no real explanation for it... :mellow:

I think you'll be fine to go with either of those brands you mention. They're all reasonably well known and have decent reputations. Personally, I'd go with Bilstein as several people on here have replaced with Bilstein in the past and also, Bilstein's coil overs have a good reputation too.
 
I replaced mine with KYB as the stock ones were leaking. This was years ago. 1999 accord f20B6
 
Actually the Bilsteins are a bit cheaper than the KYB, and they include some extra stuff that the KYB ones don't include (at least in the pictures...):

saj: do you consider they were similar to the stock ones or stiffer?

Also, when replacing the shocks, should we replace other stuff, such as the mountings or anything else?
 
It all gets a bit gnarly and seized up under the car when they get over ten years old. I'd recommend budgeting for some cutting out if seized bolts and possibly replacing any bushes that are close or involved the swap.
 
Most of the bushes have been replaced recently. I never had problems with seized bolts. In Portugal we don't have the rust problem you have in the UK ;-)

From what I could remember the ride was a bit harsher after replacing the stock shocks with KYB. I didn't change anything else just the actual shock. Although I did do both sides. Best practice I think is to change spring and shock. To be fair the original shocks went up to 90k miles. And also not sure how the car was driven by the previous owner so....
 
Pedro the links in your post show the Bilstein units as rear ones and the KYB units as front ones. ?
 
Do guys think it's worth to change both front and back ones?
I will definitely change the front ones.
